WAH, sitting at my PC and I cannot move

I was in the office yesterday and on fire in terms of the amount of work I ploughed through. Today I am WAH. I have less than zero motivation. I cant get going or start anything. I have not washed, but have brushed my teeth and I am wearing shitty old clothes. How the hell can I get going today. I literally feel like I cannot start anything but don't know why. I don't feel ill.

Go get dressed properly. I find keeping morning routine the same for wfh days really helps me stay focused

Grab a brew too & do a a to do list..usually gets me motivated again :)

Can you handwrite a list of things to do, starting with something quick and easy, then you get a feeling of satisfaction when you tick it off. Has to be handwritten for me, easier to ignore if it's somewhere on my laptop.

Have you any colleagues you like who you could ring to chat about a work issue, a bit of positive human interaction could help.

If nothing else works, have a coffee break shower and start again.

You can't work at a mad pace all the time and if you are used to super busy it's hard to prioritise work yourself on a slower day. Have you got any training or other tasks that usually take a back seat, do some of those.

Check your emails so you can mull them over, then go and have a proper shower and get dressed in work clothes to put you in work mode - including shoes. I'd do a quick lap around the houses as a walking commute too to get the blood flowing. Then brew and get on with it.

If you have some low brain power repetitive tasks to do search for a productivity playlist on Spotify I find that can help too as they tend to be upbeat songs.

I always have this after a really productive day. I use it to do admin and thinking ready to plough on tomorrow.

SereneCapybara · 11/12/2024 09:52

Have a shower, put on work clothes and make up if you usually do. Make a list of three things you need to tackle. Make a coffee and do the easiest one while you drink it. Add another thing to the list. Keep a list of three rolling until the end of the day. have a walk at lunchtime.

Shower
Get Dressed
Make a drink and have some breakfast
Sit back down
Write a list of 3 things to do today that if you don't do them will make tomorrow harder.
Then force yourself to do those

Once they are done, see how you feel.

SnapdragonToadflax · 11/12/2024 09:56

I always get this after a very busy day - my brain needs a break. First of all you need to get showered and dressed properly. Go do that, maybe go for a five minute walk around the block, then come back and just do some admin. Delete emails or tidy your desktop.

Oh and put your phone on charge in another room.

MayaPinion · 11/12/2024 09:57

Go have a shower, get dressed, have a coffee, and then go back to your desk. What can you do today that’s either easy - admin, emails, reading, prep, or pressing (if you can’t face writing a report, for example, write the structure or gather together the research). Pick one or two and say to yourself - I am just going to focus on X today, nothing else. Chances are, once you get going you’ll be fine.

Have a shower and a decent breakfast. Always wakes me up and makes me feel better!

lalaland100 · 11/12/2024 11:31

Thanks all. Just had a team meeting and we used some of the time to talk abut christmas plans, the interaction was much needed, I am going to go and shower, get ready face on and ready for the afternoon.
