I absolutely love freecycle.
Always on the look out on there locally.

Best thing I've ever gotten were:
All free: 2 Airfryers, 2 washing machines, tumble dryer, printer for pc, printer ink, lava lamp, speakers, new carpet cut offs, two large bags full of toys, an old but still decent 2012 laptop, a tablet again about 8 years old but kids can watch yt kids on there, boxes for moving, clothes horses, storage tubs, shoe shelf, TV unit, book case, a kitchen stool , ikea chest of drawers, two small bedside units, a corner shelf, canvas art paintings, two tellies, dolls house with playability furniture and characters, bathroom cabinet, old tvs but still flatscreen and no older than 15 years.
Done pretty well. Especially when on a budget.
All these have collected for our home This year.

Tell me yours!

Aloe Vera plants

Not as good as these!

But we furnished our first house from Freecycle. None of those were exactly "keepers" in the furniture department but they did the job until we could afford to buy or better came along.

We got a huge, electric Thomas the Tank set one year which we gave to our ds for Christmas. We didn't have much money at all at that point and could never have sourced anything like it.

I have a lovely corner display cabinet which cost me 99p and we've only just got rid of our sofas which we had for about 10 years and cost £20 on eBay.

Wheelyfast · 10/12/2024 18:09

I keep looking round the room and seeing so much more! But I will add I give away a lot too. Recently tried to give away a range cooker on every site baring faceache ( I don't use it) and no takers.

FrangipaniBlue · 10/12/2024 23:25

I bought a pair of designer trainers for £230 that have an RRP of £750.

Seller said they've been worn once and when they arrived I honestly struggled to see that she'd worn them at all!!

and no, they're not fake because they came in the original box, bag and with the Harrods receipt!

FrangipaniBlue · 10/12/2024 23:26

I realise that's not low but it is on the context of what they should have cost me 😂

Judgejudysno1fan · 11/12/2024 07:53

Wow, an amazing bargain. Love a good bargain.

A Neville Johnson bespoke home office (bookshelves, cupboards, drawers and desk) for £50. Looking at their website it would have cost upwards of £3000 new.

Thoughtsareswirling · 11/12/2024 08:08

I give away a lot too.

Doggymummar · 11/12/2024 08:10

I got a bran new bike, still had the labels on from Halfords. £10.00 rather than £450. The guy had run it over with his car and the wheel was buckled, claimed in insurance.

Nolegusta · 11/12/2024 08:10

Our freecycle group just turned into the local scroungers constantly asking for stuff, sadly. The same suspects constantly ask for stuff on FB groups now too.

What gets me is how specific they are. It's not just "need a freezer asap". It has to be a particular brand and colour. If I was desperate for one, I'd be grateful for any colour or make. I have got a gorgeous tall wooden corner display cupboard. It was just sitting outside my neighbour's house, going begging.

Wheelyfast · 11/12/2024 09:25

@sueelleker agree also ppl who confuse "need" & "want"
On that flipside is ppl giving away grubby things & write in the description "just wants a clean" it would haven't taken most ppl less time to actually clean it .

TigerRag · 11/12/2024 09:50

A hoover and an air fryer

My vile revolting neighbour used to get things from free cycle and then sell them on. It may not be illegal to do this, but I would have thought that it is not in the spirit of the site.

shellyleppard · 11/12/2024 09:53

I got two leather armchairs and footstool for £10 each on Facebook marketplace. Also a hardly used sofa bed for £30 !!! Not going on Freecycle or my house will explode 🤣🤣

Wheelyfast · 11/12/2024 09:55

Apologies my spelling this morning, I put the wrong glasses on (old/new) and whilst my comment makes sense the spelling is incorrect! I often edit for spellings , but didn't see that in time 😶

Time40 · 11/12/2024 10:04

A brand-new-with-tags deep pink silk coat from a charity shop - original price £179; price to me £2

Wheelyfast · 11/12/2024 10:31

Vintage mulberry bags from £2-£10 (genuine ones that have been checked out) bought over the years most recent cost £3 and was right beside a counterfeit mulberry priced £45

CandyCane5 · 11/12/2024 15:26

The best buy I ever got at a school fete jumble type stall for 20p was a gorgeous Dior bag.
I unfortunately got paint on it & threw it, not appreciating vintage Dior but I am kicking myself now!

Local clothes swap, once a month, I drop off some manky kid tshirts and pick up barely worn dresses by Reiss, Phase Eight etc. This time round I got a designer coat and brand new boots.

AwardGiselePelicotTheNobelPeacePrize · 11/12/2024 17:27

I should add I am not a complete piss taker, I do drop off lots of nice stuff too!

HashBrownandBeans · 11/12/2024 19:15

Pretty much my whole home was free. We’ve lived here 17 years and I recently treated myself to my first ever brand new cooker with some work vouchers. That was a novel experience.
We’ve always got freebies. We do a mixture of work perks(our entire house flooring was skipped at a logistics company I once worked at that came home with me still on the roll), stuff outside people’s houses, Facebook marketplace, skips.

Freebies in front of me in the living room right now I have;
three piece brown leather suite in perfect condition(I’ve not bought a new sofa in my entire adult life, just replace every 5 years off Facebook)
a giant rug the same size as the room in a brown sisal(workplace freebie)
a huge LG tv(free on Facebook)
a lamp(free on facebook)
a Henry hoover(free on Facebook, was brand new)
coat rack(work freebie)
tv unit (Facebook)
side tables(side of the road)
white blinds(side of the road)
