DS gets stomach pains from eating chocolate

He is 11 and can drink milk without any problems. But every time he eats more than a tiny amount of chocolate, gets an awful stomach ache and stomach pains. I'm guessing it's some kind of intolerance but to what? Does anyone have any ideas?

Most chocolate is full of so many other things, I'd be curious. You could try him eating a tiny bit of very pure chocolate to see if that triggers it (90% or 100% cocoa). As it's probably easier to avoid chocolate than other ingredients

Is there soya in the chocolate he's having?

PlantDoctor · 07/12/2024 09:04

My DD says chocolate hurts her tummy too. She's ok with a little bit (like chocolate advent calendar) but it's interesting to hear similar from your son. Wonder what it could be.

I'd just avoid chocolate to be honest.

Im guessing it is milk chocolate.... gives me cramps too. (And TMI awful constipation if I eat too much)

I have some sort of lactose intolerance... milk is fine, cheese... mmm a bit of a belly ache, butter... bad nausea, cream... OK in small quantities.

It could be causing a migraine which can be in the stomach as a child.

Maybe the brand? I get this from lidl chocolate.

LegoInfestation · 07/12/2024 09:19

Soya maybe. I can't eat soya lethicin which appears in a lot of chocolate

houserenohelp · 07/12/2024 09:23

My aunts gets this it's the soya lectin for her so might be worth avoiding

I came on here to say the same thing.
Must be an ingredient they use.

For a colleague he cannot have the cocoa. Gets terrible stomach pains. So all chocolate biscuits need a separate biscuit tin.
