Seeing as a lot of us will be stuck indoors today might be worth watching the livestream and consoling yourself that at least you’re not coming in for landing at Heathrow 🤢

Broadcast kicked off at 8am

Already had a divert for a transatlantic flight after 3 go arounds. Poor passengers.

Thanks, @CaveMum! We’ve got it on the big TV now, although DD rolled her eyes 😁

CaveMum · 07/12/2024 08:44

Lots of go arounds now.

This is addictive. Looks terrifying!

billysboy · 07/12/2024 08:53

hes quite irritating with his commentary but fair play for filming it all

SoupDragon · 07/12/2024 08:55

I remember watching this during another big storm. It made me feel so panicky and ill! I had to stop before I got a fear of flying. Hats off to the pilots in these circumstances.

I don’t like flying but oddly I find it reassuring. That planes are pretty robust and pilots are skilled and a go-around is no big deal.

friskybivalves · 07/12/2024 09:03

That BA wasn't getting anywhere close to the runway...

Greentreesandbushes · 07/12/2024 09:07

The pilots are really working hard today! Are they only allowed 3 attempts? Any idea where they are diverting to?

janeandmarysmum · 07/12/2024 10:43

What is the latest a landing can abort, does anyone know? Are they committed at a certain height??

I’ve seen planes on previous Big Jet TV streams have their back wheels on the tarmac and have to go up again to go round so guess there’s no height limit !

That's called a "Tip and run" I seem to remember.

They aren't very common though and the commentator gets very excited.

Eeeek

The skills of the pilots is absolutely outstanding ! The power of the engines to get those planes up again at the very last minute is immense!!

CaveMum · 07/12/2024 11:02

Had to pop out and see Jerry has had to nip home for a new coat! Hopefully back Live again soon.

He does get very excited doesn’t he !!
If you look on Big Jet TV You Tube channel there are previous clips of tail strikes 😱. There’s one of a BA plane tail hitting the runway but the pilots managed to get the plane safely back up again 😱.

I've been actually on the ground for a few seconds when the landing has been aborted before, so I think they can abort at any stage so long as they've still got the required speed.

CaveMum · 07/12/2024 11:30

From what Jerry has said previously, if the pilot gets a Windsheer warning it’s automatic landing abort, whether there’s a wheel on the ground or not.

I get that horrible dropping, dizzy feeling of vertigo just from watching.

CaveMum · 07/12/2024 13:22

They’re back up and running again if anyone is still out there!

OP posts:
CaveMum · 08/12/2024 10:27

Jerry is out again this morning. Already had a horrifying (for the passengers) go around - BA jet bounced both back wheels on the run way, started to twitch then had to put the power back on to take off again 🤢

It was 9.55 into today’s recording (time on the screen was about 10:04)
