Please help me find recent article about a particular cider being a good alternative to wine.

Anyone remember reading it or seeing it recently? It talked about something that is in wine yet not in cider and suggested cider might be better for not playing havoc with sleep. I think it might have been specifically geared to menopausal women.

I've searched online and can't find the article.

Does anyone remember seeing it, or have better search capabilities than me and can find it? It was definitely in the last few weeks.

TIA

There was one about the Christmas presents to buy that included cider from the newt in Somerset because it said was better than wine for menopausal women. It was just a small section though not a whole article!

Caitlin Morgan has written a column about this in the Times recently, though not in a very scientific way!

I’ve tried the rose cider and it was pretty nice actually- not dissimilar from rose wine but much lower in alcohol.

No idea what you’re talking about but wine can have nitrates in it, which cider wouldn’t. But in peri/menopausal women the ingredient that makes anxiety worst is the alcohol - sorry, there’s no avoiding that if you plan to still drink alcoholic drinks. A posh cider won’t do it! And cider often has more sugar in it, which will real havoc on your blood sugar too. Sure, it will help if you drink a low alcohol one and only stick to one, but most people don’t or can’t do that.

There are some lovely alcohol free drinks out there though. Sandford Orchards in Devon does an AF cider and there is another called Maiden Hill that does a nice one. Kombucha is probably the closest thing to wine. The LA Brewery or Real drinks ones are nice, but every supermarket will have some brand that’s easy to buy wherever you live.

I'm not sure it was a posh cider; I think it was a low alcohol cider that was recommended.

And I agree with you Mindutopia. Last night I had some berries and plums about 9pm and I think even those natural sugars upset my sleep rhythm.

Is it the case that the less sugar you have, the higher the spikes when you do have sugar?
