Friday night glitch in the matrix for real? We can’t explain it ?

My daughter has had no phone for a week as it broke. She always texts coming home and since it’s been getting dark if she stops at the shops with one of her friends she calls me and asks me to pick her up as it’s a good 10-15 mins walk back home. It got to 4.25 and I was getting worried, I know buses are late sometimes but this was quite still late by her standards and she always calls me. I call one of her friends and she was on the bus with my daughter and said my daughter went to the shops a while ago and was going to call me from her other friends phone to pick her up. I admit I did start to worry as she didn’t call me at all so I said ok and then suddenly a knock on the door and it was my daughter I was relieved but shocked as I said she usually calls me to pick her up as she hates walking in the dark, and straight away she said ‘where were you I called you ages ago and you said you’d be picking me up in a minute I used Amy’s phone (Amy made up name) not the friend I called just as she walked in. I said I didnt get a call from you, she said ‘look at your phone mum’ I called you and spoke to you, it even sounded like you!! I looked at my phone and nope there was no call or even missed call from Amy’s phone! My daughter said whoever it was sounded just like you ! and that I said yes, coming give me a minute and I even said ciao 😱 it wasn’t me at all! I didn’t get any calls and we didn’t speak but my daughter said we did speak and when I asked her for the 10th time she said stop it’s scaring me now. I did call you!
now for context my daughter is most likely on the adhd spectrum and has been known to tell a fib or two but usually I get it out of her. She is absolutely adamant we spoke and was waiting for me as she hates walking back and she even got upset that I don’t believe her. Her little fibs are usually easy to spot, this isn’t her usual little fib. Any explanation other my daughter didn’t call me and is making it up? I don’t think she’s lying as she always calls me to pick her up even from a friend phone as she has done this week. Even when she has a phone she usually keeps in touch with me and lets me know what bus she is on etc and will use her friends phones of needs be. She is 11 , nearly 12

So who was the friend on the bus with? She said your dd was with her. Thats really weird.

I know there's a theory that we slip in and out of alternate timelines where sometimes people are a little bit different in that they remember slightly different histories.

Weelegs29 · 06/12/2024 18:28

Could she have called the mum of the friend whose phone she was using in error and mum has mistaken it for being her own daughter?

ChaosHol1 · 06/12/2024 18:30

Surely she's just called a wrong number and the person just replied that thinking they're funny.

unless it was a time slip ?

TiredEyesToday · 06/12/2024 18:33

Really easy way to solve this- get Amy to screenshot the number your DD called from her call log, and send it to you. If your daughter doesn’t have Amy’s number to ask, I’m sure she’ll have her on socials and can ask from a tablet or whatever.

XiCi · 06/12/2024 18:36

She's either called a wrong number and the person has responded to her or shes messing with your head. Just ask 'Amy' to send a screenshot of her call log to solve the mystery

Frozensnowflake · 06/12/2024 18:38

Agree with the above, get the number from Amy first because it’s probably a wrong number and somewhere there’s a frazzled mother wondering why her daughter rang her for a lift from a friends phone and then didn’t show up 😆

My daughter usually gets the bus with several friends
all live nearby, they all went home, she only went to the shops with Amy. I just called one of her friends let’s call her Jess as she always gets the same bus too, she was the one who told me my daughter went to the shops and was going to call me from there to pick her up.. she was at the shops with one girl who I sai previously was Amy and it was Amy’s phone she supposedly called me from.

Notimeforaname · 06/12/2024 18:50

Ask for the screenshot from Amy's phone. Only other thing I can think is your daughter was somewhere else today and not near the shop you normally pick her up at so is lying and pretending she called you but made her own way home from wherever she was.

I remember doing similar kinds of things as a teen when lying about doing things I shouldn't have been doing.

TotallyTwisted · 06/12/2024 18:54

Why can't an 11 year old walk 15 minutes home? Confused

ohyesido · 06/12/2024 19:15

She is most likely fibbing for a dopamine boost and perhaps you are keen to believe the glitch story...

However

I once worked in a contact centre and vividly remember taking a call from a female, who gave me her name and date of birth when prompted. They matched my name and DOB exactly.

I was a bit perturbed but while unlikely it's not impossible...when I tried to continue the call she started to fade out going "can you hear me, can you hear me.." until the line cut suddenly. I mentioned it to my DM that night and she immediately said it's you from a parallel universe

It did freak me out a bit

She can walk anywhere 😆but she hates walking in the dark! I know, sooner or later she walk come light or dark😂

WinterCrow · 06/12/2024 19:23

As pp have said, either she rang a wrong number and had a crossed-wires conversation, or she's fibbing and getting better at it!

Agree that you need to see a screenshot from the phone she used.

ARainyNightInSoho · 06/12/2024 19:23

OP, you can solve this quickly. Ask Amy to message you a screenshot of the number your daughter called. Then you’ll know straightaway what happened.

I thought of this and to be fair she has lied before and Jo doubt will again 😂 when she first started in September and was down a different park a bit further away then the one she told me! However she admitted it straight away. This time she is adamant and completely hasn’t changed her story.

This reminds me of a call I had years ago in the middle of the night, before caller number readout was available. Not real names, obviously.

3am: RING RING!

Me, jumping awake and sleep befuddled (2 month old baby, say no more)

"Hello?"

Woman caller: In an angry voice. "Is Pete there?"

Well it happens to be my husband's name, so I said yes he is.

Woman caller "Well put him on then, now"

Me: "He's asleep, who's calling?"

WC: "What the hell is doing asleep in your house! Wake him up!"

Me: (Confused) " Who's calling?"

WC: "It's bloody Linda, as if you didn't know!"

Well, in my sleep befuddled state I thought, oh yes, Linda. Linda is the
name of his sister, so that bit made sense. I can't even remember if she sounded
like Linda or whether I was awake enough to notice.

So then I thought, there must be a problem, maybe his mother, maybe an
accident or somebody ill.

Me: "Is something wrong?"

WC "Yes there's something fucking wrong, get him on the phone,
now, or get his arse here!" (Or words similar. Long time ago)

Well at the cursing at me for no apparent reason, I told her I'd wake him and
get him to ring her back immediately and hung up. Remember there was no caller ID or 1471 in those days, so I woke him up and said his sister had just rung me being all weird and shouty and there must be something wrong.
So he rang his sister who (obvious in hindsight) had absolutely no idea what
was going on and was pissed off at being woken at 3.15am

I've always wondered where Pete was, and is now, and whether he ever went home to Linda. It's the closest I've ever been to being a fancy woman, so that
bit's quite exciting. I wonder if Pete and (fancy woman) ever managed to convince Linda they weren't at it. If Pete actually had been at my (fancy woman's) house then surely me and Pete would have hotly denied it.
"No, he's not here" would have been my reply, as fancy woman.

Maybe Woman Caller found a telephone number in Pete's pocket and decided to call it when Pete didn't come home, but transposed it and got me instead.
Or maybe she just guessed where he might be and transposed that number. There is no way of knowing. I used to work in telephone accounting in younger days and the only records kept were of "trunk calls" i.e. long distance calls which were noted on a ticket by the operator and filed away in case the customer challenged the expensive call.

So I've oft wondered how furious Linda must have been when Pete didn't
ring her straight back as promised. Or maybe she rang again and got the right number this time. And how confusing that must have been in it's own right.
And whether that added to Linda's annoyance that Fancy Woman denied
having spoken to her at all. And whether they were both as drunk as Linda
sounded.

It's occupied my thoughts for 30 years, I often use it to get off to sleep
of a night time. Any theories I've not yet thought of very welcome.
Honestly, if you think about it, the possibilities are truly endless.

When I lived in a previous town I would often get people calling on me by the name Sarah when out and about (not my name) and apologising when they realised, or if I was in new company people would tell me how much I looked like a girl they knew called Sarah.

I often wondered how many strange encounters Sarah must have had with people thinking she was me.

I never did get to meet her.

I had similar - a few years back, a new shop opened locally and when I went in, the guy asked me when I'd left Brighton and did I live here now? When I denied it, he got his DW to come from the back and he asked her, "You recognise her from Brighton, don't you?" and she said yes, she knew me.
Then my mum bumped into someone who said she'd been in Brighton and "I saw your Nikita working in a coffee shop." Well, I've not been to Brighton for years and have never lived there - but! Doing my family tree since I found that my mum has cousins who live there! So I have a doppelganger.
