I am in Australia and it is 4.30 am here. Last night I dropped DH off at a restaurant for his work Christmas party at 5.30pm. Supposed to be dinner and drinks. I haven't heard from him all night, I've been trying to get hold of him. He finally picked up ten minutes ago and told me he has been at bar/club type place and is getting an Uber home now. Google tells me that establishment actually closes at midnight. Not a chance I'm getting to sleep now.

Maybe extended Christmas opening hours?

Call them and ask tomorrow.

Was it a private function kept open for his company maybe?

I've checked their website and FB for any details about extended hours and it says nothing but fuck I hope that's the case.

Tbf, it’s quite a bold lie to tell which makes me think he’s telling the truth. That or he’s a total idiot. But I would definitely be calling to check, or I’d say I left about 4:30 am last night and I dropped my sunglasses on the way out and ask if they have them.

No he is a teacher so there isn't a budget for that kind of thing. They all just go to a restaurant and pay for themselves.

He also paid for an uber at midnight (at the time that bar usually shuts.) I saw it come up on our banking app. The bar is near the restaurant they went to.

Check if there any other payments on the banking app. Perhaps the meal or drinks at the bar with a time stamp. Or did he use a separate account?

Well he has come home. He said he got hit. I asked him where he was because that bar closes at 12. He said he doesn't know and then he said he must've passed out at Jacob's place. I have never heard of Jacob.

Is there any evidence that he got hit (cut, bruise, swelling, redness, etc)?

I'm assuming he's drunk so you won't get anything sensible out of him right now. Call the venue in the morning and say you're trying to retrace your steps from a works do last night, and you can't remember what time you left there but you think they were closing and could they confirm what time that was? Then ask, if it was midnight, if they can think of anywhere you might have gone as a group from there that was still open? If a woman answers the phone you could go with the truth and ask where a group of men might go?

Can you phone uber? We don't have it in my town so I don't know. But if you can, call and tell them your husband dropped his wallet last night and you wondered if it is in the uber that drove him or can they tell you where they dropped him off so you can see if there - tell them he was so drunk he cannot remember where he went? They might not tell you, but worth a try.

Once he has sobered up, and you've armed yourself with as much info as possible, talk to him and ask him where he was and why he took an uber but told you he was still at the first venue. Has he ever given you a reason not to trust him?

Unless he has previous I wouldn't be too concerned about it now that he's home safe. He could well have continued the night at this Jacob's house after the club closed then got an uber back from there. We've all been there, where we didn't want the night to end so in and of itself, there's nothing bad here.

What do you mean hit? Not a typo? Is he injured? Get to sleep and worry tomorrow

He is very sorry and sore so I think I'll go easy on him as this is out of character for him. He is mortified that he made an idiot of himself in front of his colleagues. To top it off he might have a couple of black eyes for work on Monday.
