Helping a friend understand universal credit and I'm stuck

My friend is disabled, she has been sent the mirgration letter to migrate from esa to uc..

Helped her fill the online thing in to claim uc last night and hit the first hurdle as she only has one form of id from the list (passport, she doesn't drive and never has due to her disability) so she is now waiting for them to call her to confirm her identity.

she has asked me if she needs to contact housing benefit to let them know she has applied for uc to shut that claim down or is that automatic when she claims uc? she is also confused if she will have to pay rent until her first payment of uc? no problem if so she is just trying to budget over the next month and is trying to work out if she will have enough money.

also does she need to phone esa to let them know she has applied for uc or is that automatic because she is migrating?

I have been looking on google but some websites say one thing and others say something else!

I'm not on benefits so have no clue and feeling a bit lost being honest so wondering if anyone has migrated already?

Call the DWP directly, they will clear these points up with you over the phone. Do it when you’re with your friend so she can give her permission for them to speak with you.

Check with your friends GP if there is someone available to help with filling out forms, they sometimes have a general person that helps vulnerable patients with social issues like this. There may also be someone like this if your friend is renting from a local uthority or housing association. These services are useful because they will know the points scoring system and how to cover each section properly. Phone them and ask why provisions they have. Before you have. Crack at filling in the form yourself, watch some YouTube videos on how best to do this, there are a couple of coaching accounts.

Lastly, thank you for helping a person in need, you’re amazing.
