Sore throat, cough, feeling faint

I am suffering with a sore throat and cough. The cough is dry and infrequent for now but my chest is very painful.

However since late this afternoon I've felt like I am about to faint, I don't feel congested or full of cold or anything but my chest is on fire and my insides up to my head feel like a hot air balloon.

Perhaps I'm just tired but has anyone felt like this? I know it's winter and there's a lot of it going around but I've never felt quite like this before.

I forgot to add that I feel very dreamy and floaty. It's a bizarre feeling.

I know I should ring the GP in the morning but have no one to talk to so hoping to see if anyone has experienced similar.

So you mean you feel dizzy or breathless ? Have you got a temperature ?

I've felt similar to this with both Covid and flu in the past.

Have you got anyone with you in case you do faint?

WinterFoxes · 05/12/2024 22:46

Sounds like you might have a chest infection or the beginnings of pneumonia. You need a face to face appointment with your GP . I hope you get better soon.

Husband has this exact thing. He said his chest feels on fire like a cheese grater has been in there. He's nearly fainted a few times and feel floaty/dream like state. He's had it for 4 days and finally went docs today who confirmed fever and chest infection. Antibiotics and plenty of rest ordered.

Itissunnysomewhere · 05/12/2024 22:50

I think you need to ring 111.

Do you have a pulse oximeter at home?

Switcher · 05/12/2024 22:52

Not quite sure why that is such a concern. Go to bed?

I already had Covid two months ago!

No one with me, only me and DC. If I faint, I'm not sure what will happen.

Interesting. This is exactly how I feel. The dreamy floaty feeling with the hot chest feeling is unnerving as it's unlike any flu like feeling I've ever had.

I'm in bed. I'm alone with no other adult and just young DC in the house.

I'm not sure why you'd bother to post a response that's so unhelpful.

There are 4 things going around..flu, Covid, rsv and the vomiting bug. Many people are ending up in hospital with severe symptoms so you should phone 111 for advice.

stayathomegardener · 05/12/2024 23:05

Can anyone come and stay over tonight?

Grmumpy · 05/12/2024 23:06

Rsv might give your symptoms..please get advice and I hope you feel better soon.

stayathomegardener · 05/12/2024 23:06

I remember round one with covid it felt like breathing fire or icy mints in my chest.

I was thinking this. You sound quite unwell to me and it may be a good idea to ring 111 now.

Hes said the same. My husband isn't a typically ill person. Takes a lot to knock him down. He worked all week thinking it was a really bad cold, almost passed out when had to leave his office to run an errand so he picked up some lucozade but he was sent home yesterday afternoon. He looks like boiled shit, frankly. He tried 2 different pharmacies this week before managing to get a GP appointment today. Both pharmacies said it was a cold and basically sold him syrups. So i would recommend just going straight to GP tomorrow.

Covid effected me exactly like this the first time I had it. Each time I’ve had it it has been slightly different, I suppose because of the different variants.
I almost blacked out 3 times with it the first time and had chest pain. It didn’t get worse. Don’t worry too much yet. Just keep an eye on your temperature.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/12/2024 21:29

How are you feeling today @Breadmilkcoffee?

How are you feeling today @Breadmilkcoffee?

Thank you for asking.

The cough continues which I am trying to stifle through deep breathing as my underwear can't cope at this age. I am feeling a wee bit breathless I must admit. But the dreamy feeling at least has not been so bad today. It does feel like Covid.

Generally feeling like life is very hard anyway. I don't have many (any) people around me who give a shit. Just me and DC battling on through everyday.

Sorry things are tough for you at the moment.

It must be very difficult when you are unwell and having to care for small children by yourself.

Hope you will feel better soon.

Itissunnysomewhere · 07/12/2024 10:12

Are you going to see a doctor? It sounds like you need antibiotics

Breadmilkcoffee · 07/12/2024 23:59

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea thanks for your kind comment. I'm coughing my way through the weekend and battling along.

@Itissunnysomewhere yes I think so. Chest is on fire.

I do wonder what would happen if I was just to keel over. ExH would take in DC happily and they could all forget I existed.

How are you feeling now?
Can you ex take dc while you recover?
I'm worried for you. Ds 2 had this virus earlier in the autumn and fainted, leading to an accident. You deserve to be looked after when you are this ill. Can any neighbours help?

Thank you @WinterFoxes hope your DS was OK. I really did feel faint and dreamy, it was the most odd sensation.

It's been over a week and I'm still coughing. I visited the GP who didn't have much to say but did prescribe antibiotics which are helping. There is so much of it going around.

Unfortunately no friendly neighbours here. No friends in that sort of way really and family estranged for various reasons. No one checks on us, except for ex ironically . It's very tough being a single parent and so isolated.
