My Granddaughter (2 yo) has had a cough and cold for the last 4/5 weeks. DD has been to the drs with her 3 times and has been given inhalers and steroids….nothing helped.
Yesterday she was coughing so much she was vomiting. Stopped drinking, temp of 39.8 that wouldn’t come down with calpol.

We decided to take her to A&E as she was constantly falling asleep and not communicating with us at all.
They checked her over and admitted her straight away. Chest X-ray confirmed pneumonia and swab confirmed RSV.

She was on oxygen overnight and her heart rate was 184. My DD was so upset and worried.
The hospital is full of children with RSV that has developed in to pneumonia.
She was fine on Tuesday evening….a bit of a runny nose, this cough that wouldn’t shift but otherwise fine. Bouncing around, singing and dancing….then within 24 hours she was laying in a hospital cot on oxygen.

Thankfully she seems to be on the mend now but is still in hospital until her sats are stable.

I guess I just wanted to make people aware of how quickly things can change and to trust your gut!

I'm sorry she is so poorly but she is in the best place and hopefully on the mend now.

My 12 mnth grandson was in hospital for RSV a couple of weeks ago and stayed 3 nights on oxygen and antibiotics. Thankfully fully recovered now but me and husband caught it and have been quite poorly for 2-3 weeks now, and only just getting over it.

What does RSV stand for?

TheMasterplan23 · 05/12/2024 18:54

@Katherineryan1986

I wasn’t even aware of it until my mum said she was getting vaccinated against it.
It was just so frightening how quickly she became so poorly.
Im glad you’re grandson has recovered 😊
