Why don't parents label their kids property?

I've worked in 5 schools and without fail 90%+ of items in lost property have no name on n them. So when Mr Jones tings up and asks if Balonz's jumper has been handed in, why does he think we will be able to identify it out of the 600 other identical jumpers?

Laziness.

In my case I often don't because we have to cut all the labels out, and nothing else lasts very long.

I always hand sewed name tags in all my DCs uniforms. DD lost her sweatshirt once. We searched all the lost property bins for days, told her reception teacher etc.
It eventually turned up in class after PE when the teacher found it kicking around the floor - she knew it was DDs because of the name tag - but someone had crossed out her name and written her DCs name in pen above DDs name actually on the tag!!
So yes, naming uniform helped get it back - but some people have no shame!

It takes fucking ages.

People rip out the iron on labels.

So you either need to sew them on, or use marker pen to write all over the inside.

It used to take me a few days to sew them all on each august.

I used to write their names in sharpie inside the collar. Had loads of stuff returned to me. Couldn’t be dealing with the faff of scratchy iron on labels though
