Best place to live in Britain

If you love where you live what are the reasons why?
I want to move from a city. I’m tired of heavy traffic, road rage and endless building on green belt land. I want somewhere where people are friendly and there is a sense of community. Lovely countryside and peace and quiet but enough to do as I am retired. I would love to have some inspiration!

My friends live in a village of Studham, Bedfordshire. A nice place but you need your own transport.

I’d love to live somewhere coastal. Maybe Cornwall but I appreciate it’s a long way (well west Cornwall) from a bigger city. Saying that I used to live in Pembrokeshire which is probably just as isolated! I miss the sea.

How about one of the Yorkshire market towns OP? Malton, Richmond, Skipton, Hebden Bridge….some beautiful countryside. A friend of mine retired to Helmsley and loves it.

I live in the Cotswolds surrounded by beautiful countryside. Enjoy living here but can assure you there is plenty of traffic, road rage, and building on greenfield land. No ubers, no Deliveroo, not much in the way of public transport, 15 miles to the nearest "big" supermarket. Living in the country can be a culture shock and doesn't always live up to the rural dream.

Yes me too. Somewhere by the sea but with access to normal things like shops.

If I was going to move anywhere, it would probably be the north east of England, on the Scottish-England border. That's one the few unspoilt areas. The UK is becoming an increasingly unpleasant place to live. There are just too many people crammed onto this small island, and it's impacting our quality of life. The traffic is awful. Even driving across town is now an ordeal. Also, developers take advantage of the high demand and build disgusting little rabbit hutch 'houses' which they then jam together. My local woods have been hacked down to make way for a new estate, and we've now been told that the fields in the centre of the village are marked for development as well. I could cry. I used to love walking in those fields on a spring morning, or taking the dog over there on a summer evening. Why have I bothered to work and save all my life? All I ever wanted was a few fields and a bit of peace and quiet. But no, that's asking too much. And it never ends. No matter how many estates we build we always need more, more, more.
