Why does my face/head hurt? Anyone for diagnosis ideas?

Since yesterday I’ve had what feels like sinusitis pain, on one side of my face and head. It’s not sinusitis as I don’t have a sinus infection.

It’s not very nice and I’d like it to leave now! I’m also sensitive to light and just feel tired and out of sorts.

Any ideas of what it could be? Then I can start trying to find out how to cure or prevent it!

Thanks!

Migraine?

ForPearlViper · 01/12/2024 21:59

You can have blocked sinuses without an infection. Have you tried taking a decongestant. You may have the beginnings of a cold virus.

Covid?

Shingles. You need to keep a close watch on this and speak to your gp tomorrow. If I am right you need antivirals asap. Post herpetic neuralgia is serious in that area.

ChocHotolate · 01/12/2024 22:12

Could be:
Sinus pain
Toothache
Earache
Shingles
Trigeninal pain
Covid

Have you tried painkillers?

Bettergetthebunker · 01/12/2024 22:12

Cluster headache. Google them, not nice and I’ve only had a few in my life but they run in my family

Often misdiagnosed as sinusitis or migraine.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 01/12/2024 22:14

I get face pain and find the only thing that helps is an ice mask (got one off Amazon). Hope you feel better soon.

TMJ? Do you jaw clench?
I've developed this, I'm peri meno age..

HazelLion · 01/12/2024 22:16

This I have post hepatic neuralgia affecting side of my face, neck arm and hand because the shingles rash wasn't visible (it was inside my eye) it got miss diagnosed at first and antivirals were useless by the pointof diagnosis. I also lost partial sight in that eye. This happened 13 years ago and I'm still in pain now. Get it checked out, better waisting everyone's time than years of pain.

Covid. I had it a week ago and this is how it started. I hadn’t felt ill until I had a stuffy nose and face then it went to a lot of nose blowing and runny nose then sneezing the. I felt ill everywhere.

Tittat50 · 01/12/2024 22:36

You could try an antihistamine to see if it's rhinitis.

You could try cola and aspirin to see if that helps ( doesn't always tell you the answer but that helps some with migraine pain associated with inflamed blood vessels and pressure)It helps me.

A strong anti inflammatory medication such as Naproxen ( not good for your stomach lining) might help you see if it's some type of inflammation around the TMJ. Think this is prescription only sadly. It's much better than ibuprofen for inflammation.

Hot water bottles on my face help with pain I experience from multiple face/head pain issues.

If it's the dreaded COVID sudafed might bring relief if it's very uncomfortable.

Thanks so much! My tablet kicked in and I fell asleep after posting this.

Bit better this morning, just arrived at work as we’re too short staffed to be ill sadly!

I think I can rule out sinusitis as no congestion at all.
Its the right place for cluster headaches but from what I’ve read it’s not sharp or excruciating enough.
I had Covid about 3-4 weeks ago, just shaking off the last of the cough. So could be related to that?

Migraine seems likely especially with not tolerating light. I’m 38 and have only had 3-4 migraines in my life, this thing has happened twice in the last month. No one say perimenopause please 🙈

I'm going to try drinking lots today. Rest not an option until next Sunday sadly.

I gwt sinus pain and sinus headaches without having a sinus infection. Sometimes I'm just very slightly sniffly and get this pain.
