Do you ever work on the weekends

Asking only when it's non contracted.

Sometimes I enjoy pre-doing a few tasks and lightening my workload for the next week.

Only if I need to. I don't resent it on the odd occasion as my work is very flexible.

I do check emails on Sunday night and clear the decks so to speak so I'm hitting the ground running on Monday. We have a work rule of no replies after 6pm Friday - 8am Monday so I schedule any replies to be sent then.

@Delorian

Yep, I couldn't keep it up and the benefits didn't outweigh the negatives. Local authority is much cushier and I can use my non working time for the interests that academia was slowly killing 😂

PastaAndProse · 02/12/2024 10:38

No, never. I work PT Tuesday-Thursday and it would never occur to me to check emails or do anything work related outside of my working hours on those days.

I'm an academic. I work whenever the DC aren't in the room basically. Every morning, every evening, when they're at school, if they go and play for an hour. Laptop out, straight to the next heap of crap to wade through!

What's your field of research?

I finished off some data analysis Sunday evening.. showed it to the project manager who was genuinely impressed and told me "Great work". It's put a smile on my face.

What's your field of research?

Psychology. But tbh it's not the research, I'm in a senior management role which takes up all week with meetings so if I want to maintain any research output or do any teaching prep it's all evenings and weekends.

Yes. I get paid on a 7/7 basis (since my previous grade) and there is an expectation I will keep an eye on emails and respond to urgent queries, and I often end up trying to catch up on reporting or reading or admin over the weekend (or late nights).

It's not right. But it's always been the culture, just so much worse since we all got email on mobiles and laptops to WFH (it used to only be the next grade above me had computers at home, pre-Covid).

Yes I do as it usually makes the following week less stressful and especially if I want to be more flexible with my time when it comes to work/life balance and kids
