Query re Tube/DLR TfL charges

I’ve tried and failed to find an answer on Google. I’ve tried to check this out on TfL website and even opened an account but no luck at their end due to a ‘cyber incident’

I travelled from about 9am - tapped in at Euston. Went to Bank (Northern Line)
changed to DLR, one stop to Shadwell (should I have tapped out at Bank and tapped in before getting on the DLR?)
got off at Shadwell (was taking my daughter somewhere needed to get her on the right train)
Did the exact journey back
tapped out at Euston around 10 am
Not sure if I should have tapped in and out when joining and leaving the DLR?

I’ve been charged 16.60
is this an error or did I do wrong
If I was wrong will I receive any sort of fine?

thank you

Yes sadly have to tap when changing between train lines or journey types (dlr / tube. / bus) etc
youve been charged the daily maximum fare

Yes you should have beeped your card on the card readers when leaving Shadwell DLR.
(and when switching to DLR at Bank).
The system doesn't know how far you travelled so you've been charged the highest daily amount.
You won't get a fine.

DanteBlembe · 28/11/2024 18:41

Sorry meant to say it’s ‘2’ maximum fares as the system couldn’t compute it’s part of same journey.

you can ask for a refund

Did you tap out at Shadwell? As far as I'm aware there's nowhere to tap in and out when getting onto the DLR at Bank from another line. It's usually only at places where you leave the station then the DLr is round the corner. Unless they've changed it since I last went to Bank.

Needmorelego · 28/11/2024 18:46

Yes I'm not sure if you need to tap when changing to DLR at Bank but you should have tapped at Shadwell when you got off and back in again when you did the journey in reverse.
The system thinks you just went in at Euston and back out again at Euston. It doesn't know where you went.

Thank you everyone appreciate the responses
We had had a few adventures (!) on the trip so I wasn’t as ‘with it’ as usual
because I didn’t actually leave any stations the DLR being different slipped my mind!

Don't need to tap at bank, do need to tap out at Shadwell.

DLR can catch you out if you aren't used to it as they don't have actual barriers just stand alone beepy machines 🙂
