Tips for living a less stressed, healthier life

Hi all. I'm making a few changing to the way I live right now. I've being going through some severe stress with DC having mental health problems, other close family having health issues and housing issues.

I've not been eating right and relying to much on alcohol as a self soother, but now realise I need to stop this and lead a healthier life as had a bit of a wake up call recently.

So what do you do to feel relaxed and healthy?

Obviously the alcohol is going to go - I'm going to stop altogether for a few weeks (might have a glass of wine at Christmas) but I'm too scared of doing my liver permanent damage so I think giving up will be straightforward enough. The main reason I was doing it was to help anxiety but I've started anti depressants and got a course of Valium for next couple of weeks, and I'm really determined with this one.

I need to eat better, but I have IBS and not all fruit and veg is kind to my stomach!

Also will try and walk outside more although my anxiety has been so bad I don't like being outside on my own but I do have a walking pad I can use for which is better than nothing

What do others do to help reduce stress and anxiety?

Also got myself booked in for some counselling as well which I'm hoping might help.

Cold showers (as a start, turn the water to it's coldest setting whe you rinse the soap off yourselfnd cold water swimming.
Getting outside in the daylight as soon as possible on waking (and certainly by 10am)
> Half an hour of daylight (preferably direct sunlight)
> 20 mins exercise (even just very brisk walking)

More exercise and more daylight is better, but I think that's the daily minimum and gets momentum going for the rest of the day.

Thank you! I was looking at cold water swimming groups on FB but I think starting off with a cold shower is a good start (for just now)

Good point about daylight, it's so dark so early now I need to prioritise getting outside more
