To buy or not to buy?

My 9yr old DD has asked for four items this Christmas, 3 have been bought (as well as other presents I know she will love) but I can't decide on the 4th.

I'm not going to reveal what is until the poll closes as I don't want to influence people's votes.

I will say its a very reasonable request, it's age appropriate, it will bring her joy, I can afford it and the only reason not to buy it is that it's going to annoy the life out of me!!

Children are only young for a very short time - give her joy!

BloodyWolves · 26/11/2024 13:13

Is is a Barbie dream house? If yes it will 100% annoy the living daylights out of you… but still buy it! 😆

Deadbeatex · 26/11/2024 14:33

Lol no not a barbie dream house but my mate is looking to get her DD who turns 5 in Jan one, are they robust enough for a child this age to play with? What's annoying about it @BloodyWolves

I can click yes but really without knowing what it is, its hard to say.

Can the batteries “go to sleep” on Boxing Day?

I think knowing what it is will influence the vote lol

I can imagine the batteries being removed at some point if I buy it yes

I hate any electronic plastic tat with a passion. Consider it a Christmas present to yourself not to buy it!

TheDrunkenClam · 26/11/2024 15:21

Buy it!

GiveMeVodkaPlease · 26/11/2024 15:28

YABU to ask a question that no one can possibly answer without knowing what the item is.

NOTcentreparcsandNOTatrifle · 26/11/2024 15:39

A Furby?

I bought one for my grand-daughter last Christmas as long-awaited revenge for the one my daughter had many years ago that drove me bonkers.

My daughter loves the bloody thing now. Going to have to up my "revenge" gifts strategy 😅

IAmNeverThePerson · 26/11/2024 15:40

Put sellotape over the speaker. Takes the edge off.

Beezknees · 26/11/2024 15:44

Buy it. The day will come where you'll miss the days of annoying toys

I hadn't actually thought of that aspect, I more imagined arguments where I'd had enough and begged for a schedule of when she could use it but this is helping me lean towards yes......

To be fair whilst I think the item will influence the vote, the question is really do I put her first and buy her something she wants and will enjoy or do I put myself and my sanity first. The item doesn't really need to be made clear for you to be able to answer that

Unless it's a drum kit or something that will annoy the neighbours then buy it . The chances are she'll lose interest quickly anyway

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 26/11/2024 16:00

' it's going to annoy the life out of me!!'

and that is why you will buy it as it's about her and not you.

you actually agree it is suitable in all other ways.

We only have a neighbour on one side and honestly if it annoys her that's a bonus and makes me more tempted to purchase it! Long history of her banging doing DIY and hoovering/loud cleaning in the early hours 🙄

I've decided to go with the vote (as I knew it would probably end up being a yes majority) that way I can mutter bloody mumsnet and blame you lot if/when I purchase it and it annoys me 😜

I mean technically there's another couple of days left to vote and all the "sane" parents could be on later and vote no so I wouldn't want to influence them......😂
It's a microphone karaoke speaker thingy and this kid is already loud and doesn't shut up 🫣😂

I dislike you all (well aside from the tiny minority of sane people!) I've ordered it today

@Deadbeatex LOL!

We could have a MN sweepstake to guess at what time on Christmas Day it will be launched out of the window 😂

My 2 year old GC was given one last Christmas (not by me!) - they love it. Parents - not so much.
