Day out recommendations - Chester or Liverpool

Me and DH have a cheeky day off together tomorrow, and I want to go somewhere nice and have a mooch around, bit of shopping, nice lunch etc.

Thinking Liverpool or Chester as haven't spent a significant amount of time in either.

Any recommendations? Either on which city or reccos for nice things to do?

Chester is lovely for a mooch about. Lots of cafes on bridge street. You could walk the walls, go down to the river, have a look in the cathedral.

…and La Fattoria’s is a nice Italian restaurant in Chester. The Architect by the racecourse is good too.

Both nice but very different.
I would probably choose Chester for a bit of a mooch or Liverpool for full on shopping

Chester. It's more compact for a day. Start the day with a walk around the walls, go to the cathedral, walk and look at the rows.

Loads of places to eat, La Fattoria didn't used to open on a Monday so I would check. The market isn't open either although I assume the Christmas ones will be.

It's one of my favourite cities

Chester is pretty. We loved Liverpool in the summer but had gone mainly to see the typical tourist areas(and Taylor Swift). The shopping and restaurants in the area near John Lewis were good if that helps and there were nice coffee places on Bold Street. Have a great day!
