Going to my neighbours for coffee. What time do I leave?

The elderly lady upstairs has asked me in for coffee at 3pm.
When I say elderly she is still fit for her age. I don’t know her well and haven’t been to hers before.
What time roughly would you stay until?
She is lovely but don’t want to overstay my welcome or anything but don’t want to look rude either if I were to leave too early.
Thank you!

I'd say roughly an hour depending on how it is going.

UncharteredWaters · 24/11/2024 00:08

Half four?

Amarige · 24/11/2024 00:08

I wouldn't stay any later that half 4 unless it's obvious you're both having a roaring time.

DangerMouseAndPenfoldx · 24/11/2024 00:08

Stay about an hour

An hour

Rewis · 24/11/2024 00:19

I'd evaluate after an hour. If I'm enjoying myself I'd make some noise about how she must have plans but if she says that you should stay then stay longer. If you're not feeling it then make your excuses. You'll feel when conversation starts to lagg

I struggle sometimes knowing when to leave so with friends I say to them that once they need to start doing bedtime or something, tell me to leave. But if this is first meeting then that might be too much

Yes an hour, to an hour and fifteen minutes. Better to leave slightly early than over-stay your welcome. You can always reconvene another time.

If you find it difficult to leave, wait for a pause in conversation, or simply stand up calmly saying "it's been really lovely chatting but work calls" or something similar.

Thanks! Glad I asked- I was thinking later!

An hour or so

Letmegohome · 24/11/2024 00:24

@Nightsky67 an hour ish but wait for a natural lull, don't rigidly stick to an hour and clock watch though

Mumblechum0 · 24/11/2024 00:32

I’d say an hour too.

Nightsky67 · 24/11/2024 01:17

Thank you, much appreciated!

@Nightsky67 you might stay later, you might enjoy it so much that the time flies , either way enjoy the time spent

Letmegohome · 24/11/2024 20:51

@Nightsky67 how did it go? ☕☕

Nightsky67 · 24/11/2024 23:42

All good thanks- chatted for 2 hours!

If it's hard going, I'd escape after an hour. If not, I'd be thinking 60-90 mins.
