Birthday lunch out - ideas for making it special

My lovely Mam turns 75 next month and her birthday is just before Christmas. I’ve always made a concerted effort not to let it get swallowed up by the festivities and have booked a really nice hotel/pub for Sunday lunch. When she turned 70 I surprised her by turning up on the day when she thought I was 8,000 miles away, she cried (and she never cries!) it was really lovely. But she doesn’t have a big social circle, so will just be me, her and dad. What can I do on the day to make it a bit more special? For her 70th, dad commissioned a lovely cat-themed cake and we had some sparklers etc. She is one of those to pretend not to like a fuss, but secretly does! I thought I would get her a Cameo and take my iPad so she can watch it, and ask the hotel/pub if they are happy for me to take some Turkish Delight (her favourite) and put some candles in them! I’m not thinking birthday banners or anything like that, just something to make it a bit special and more than just a Sunday lunch out. Any ideas? It’s been a long week and in an hour I will be watching Wales get annihilated by South Africa, so my brain is already tired!

I’m not trying to reenact ‘Up’ though… she’s only 5 foot tall…

Perhaps a little balloon then and some table confetti if the venue allows it, Add a little pile of gifts (maybe a photo book?) and then ask the staff to bring out a small cake with the coffees at the end of the meal.

If you drink, have a bottle of fizz waiting on the table when you arrive?
