I'm sorry if there is another thread I haven't seen it, kind of worrying about a full on war breaking out though this morning. I have quite bad anxiety and it seems ever more a reality now. Has anyone else seen this this morning ?

Putin said the missile was a “response” to the UK and US green-lighting Ukraine to use long-range missiles in Russian territory this week, and claimed that the weapon was a “non-nuclear hypersonic warhead” named Oreshnik that Moscow felt “entitled to use” after the Western allies’ decision.

He has used Ballistic missiles before against Ukraine and he would have used these new ones regardless.

What excuses did he come up with for using 10k NK troops or Iran missiles or blowing up Ukraine power networks?

Since when has he held back?

We should have allowed everything we have restricted, to be used the moment he invaded but all we've really done is allowed ourselves to be bullied by this madman.

@dorabora

There have been a few threads on MN already on this over the last 48 hours but this Reuters article sums things up fairly well, though unfortunately they still go with “Intercontinental” in the link in the article itself they now correctly describe it as having Intermediate range.

As @Alexandra2001 rightly points out ballistic missiles of various ranges have been used multiple times in this war…the real news here is that Russian’s used the other day appears to be was a new type of missile.

Reuters and other sources are claiming that Russia gave the US notice of the launch..which in terms of the whole conflict is at least one tiny bit of good news.

Thank you both for rationalising it for me, it doesn't feel as scary now.
I know the media is too blame for scaremongering but somehow being up on the night at 3am with the baby made it seem scarier

Don't worry... speaking as someone who lived through the cold war and all its mutually assured destruction. A lot of Putin's words are mean't for domestic consumption and as for the commentary of our press, well most journalists these days pretty unworldly. Behind the scenes there are still plenty of rational minds and a lot of dialogue between the various foreign ministries and militaries on both sides about what they are and not doing. I can remember US cruise missiles driving around during the 80's. Even then we knew it was all an exercise in diplomacy, a flexing of the muscles. I wouldn't worry, it will be OK.
