Napping at 4pm aged 50 - normal?

Is it normal to be napping at 4pm for 15 mins most days?

I get so tired that I often will take a short nap on the sofa at 4pm.

now I won’t sleep until midnight or later.

but I feel amazing now I had thr nap. Before I felt like thick sludge. Exhausted. Now I feel like I could do a workout.

I went to bed at midnight last night too. Slept with two wee breaks in the night until 7pm.

Anyone else find themselves in this napping habit. I hate it but I can’t seem to get through the day.

DD has ADHD and is in bed so late. And I can’t seem to sleep until she’s in bed…

Used to do this regularly in my 50s once home from work. I no longer need this so put it down to the menopause.

Okay well there’s me in my thirties who feels sleepy at 2pm…

I think a power nap can actually be healthy for you, at whatever age.

3pm on a Sunday afternoon is when my eyes are having a rest. Normally a couple of hours, and it doesn't impact my sleep at night. I'm nearly 55. I thoroughly enjoy it.

mydogisthebest · 20/11/2024 19:03

No, the only time I have a sleep during the day is when I am ill.

I am 70. Go to bed between 11 and 11.30 and get up at 7am

We call this nap a nana nap

Nap sounds normal to me!

about the dodgy bladder - do you know about vaginal oestrogen - it’s very good for bladders, utis etc

It's a game changer for me. Recommended by mumsnetters god bless you all

I love naps. I've been having them since I was a teenager. I would just take myself off to bed.

I'm 51 now but haven't napped regularly for ages as I've been busy and working full time for years. I think I've gotten out of the habit as I don't even have naps at the weekend unless I am under the weather or have had a very poor night sleep (which is rare)..

When I retire, I'm going to go back to have them as they are so lovely!

Wassamatta · 20/11/2024 19:26

I'm 39 and when I work from home, I have a little 20min nap. It makes me feel amazing! I don't think it's an age thing, it's also a busy thing, a "having exhausting kids" thing.
Go for it!

orangetriangle · 20/11/2024 19:33

I have a nap after work at 2 sometimes an hour sometimes 2 nap at weekends as well if I can again sometimes an hour sometimes 2 I'm 55 but have always napped up at 7 on weekdays for work up and down for toilet in the night though sometimes will sleep until 9 or 9 30 weekdays i just do what my body needs

justasking111 · 20/11/2024 19:40

Had to take my husband to the eye clinic on Friday morning. While he was having his tests I started watching a programme on my phone. It was lovely and warm in the clinic. I found myself dozing off twice. Mortified because I snore and it was 10 am.

I can doze anywhere these days.

I’m 51 & nap at weekends sometimes, I’m often up at 5 on weekdays to go to the gym so it’s a way to catch up.

But, nana nap??? What an awful name!

I love nana nap as a name, we've been having them since our 20s (mainly because we were hung over)

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 20/11/2024 19:42

52 here and I nap every evening before I make dinner. I’m pretty active on a daily basis and I notice it tiring me out more than it did 5 years ago. I cycle for a minimum of an hour a day (commuting) and walk daily for 2 hours (dog) in between everything else. Love a good sofa snooze for a half hour.

Itoldyousoo · 20/11/2024 19:42

I've always been a person who has a nanny nap. Did it as a student and when working would have a quick one once home. Some people just have different sleeping patterns.

converseandjeans · 20/11/2024 20:24

I am always exhausted all day & then can't switch off & relax enough to go to bed at a reasonable hour. If I'm on school hols I like to have a nap. I just want to stop working now so I can relax more & have an occasional nap. Unfortunately have another 7 years until I can retire from teaching & I'm looking forward to doing something less demanding.

giadaros · 20/11/2024 20:25

I've always loved a nap. I come from a culture where a lot of people nap in the afternoon for a short while and they are renowned for their longevity!

Comedycook · 20/11/2024 20:32

I find a nap makes me more productive.

PieonaBarm · 21/11/2024 08:53

I do it most days. My DH calls it a pre-nap nap 😂
