How did you celebrate your 20 years wedding anniversary?

Looking for ideas. Going away is not an option. We've had our ups and downs the last 20 years, almost separated at one point around 5 years ago. Now in a really good place. I miss our wedding day. I would love to do it all over again but DH not keen to renew vows.

How did you celebrate yours ?

We are going away which I know is not what you want so perhaps a really good dinner somewhere? Could you have one night away in a hotel?

I am not for vow renewal I think it’s a bit naff. I meant my vows 20 years ago. I don’t need to repeat myself!

We did lots of things. Main one was going on holiday, flying out on our anniversary. Other things we did were a 1 day baking course in London, (we live here, so no major travel involved), we also did a walk around where our first dates were, a couple of theatre shows and some other things I can't remember. We spread these out over the year.

Did you both have a cake to celebrate on the day? I'm thinking cake and a 2 & 0 balloons for the day

I didn't realize 20th was a thing.

I assumed we'd mark our silver in 3yrs time. By that time youngest child should be old enough to leave home alone.

We were together for a while before we married so generally acknowledge our going out anniversary rather than our wedding - although we seem to have missed 25 for that too!

notacooldad · 17/11/2024 10:50

We didn't! We forgot.
We didn't celebrate our 25th either because it was lockdown.
Maybe we'll remember our 30th!!!
I dont really understand why you need to renew your vows, you said them once, why say it again. Otherwise it makes the first vow pointless.

Sheknowsaboutme · 17/11/2024 12:19

What is the point of renewing? Ive never understood.

OddBoots · 17/11/2024 12:22

I didn't think 20th was a thing to make a fuss about, we thought about doing something for our 25th but it happened at about the time we each had siblings going through divorce so it seemed a bit insensitive so we didn't in the end.

AgualusasLover · 17/11/2024 12:25

We both routinely forget our anniversary every year, so I suspect nothing. Our kids are late teens so they could be left and we could go away for the night/weekend (it is next year).

Jane958 · 06/03/2025 22:04

Well firstly it is your 20th anniversary, or you have you just been living in sin for 20 years, so not necessarily an anniversary?

Millymoonshine · 06/03/2025 22:08

We went on a cruise.
Inlaws minded the dc for a week.

But as you can’t go away could you go out for a meal to a lovely restaurant.
I usually choose some jewellery I like and buy it, dh sees it when I get home. 😂

CarpetKnees · 06/03/2025 22:11

We didn't. I mean, potentially we might have gone for a meal, but nothing specific.

For our Silver / 25th we went away for a short break and we also had a party with family and friends.

ExtraDecluttering · 06/03/2025 22:17

Had a takeaway with the DCs, couldn't go out due to covid restrictions. Which means 25 is coming up but we haven’t really given it any thought TBH. I wouldn’t want to do a vow renewal, it was bad enough being the centre of attention all day first time round without doing it again, I’ve only been to one, which was actually lovely, small church blessing, bride wore jeans, informal party afterwards. I’m not a party-thrower either, don’t like a fuss made of me, we’ve never done them for big birthdays either. Ideally I think I’d probably just go out for a meal with close family and maybe a cake afterwards, that’s what we did for my parents golden anniversary recently.

EconomyClassRockstar · 06/03/2025 22:18

We went to a very fancy restaurant, the kind that serves tiny portions and everyone brags about going. We then left there and proceeded to get extremely drunk and ended up in Chinatown at 2am wolfing down on clams in black bean sauce and noodles. It was a great night!

For our 25th, we went to Costa Rica.

notacooldad · 07/03/2025 08:46

Living in sin? 😆
I've not heard that expression in decades!!

We didn't do anything for our 20th or 25. I think 20th We forgot 25th it was Covid lockdown. Next year is our 30th. I better start planning now otherwise we'll forget again!

Hedonism · 07/03/2025 08:55

I don't really understand vow renewals. They don't expire, that's the whole point.

Just have a party if you want a party.

TheaBrandt1 · 07/03/2025 08:58

Amazing meal out and v expensive ring. Dd1 smack in middle of A levels so couldn’t go away
