Would you recommend your smart thermostat?

We've been thinking of getting one and were waiting on Black Friday to see if the nest dropped in price. However I then read google will not be making them for much longer so I'm not sure this is the best option now. I'm thinking of getting the Tado one instead. Do you have a smart thermostat and would you recommend it?

No. It's got some 'learning' thing on it, and it somehow thinks I want the heating on at 1am as an example.

No matter how I set it. It's annoying. But I can turn it on/off with my phone though, which is cool.

I have Nest and I love it - does what I tell it and knows when I’m out and turns the heating down

Well I’m sitting here freezing waiting for man to come and try to fix ours
yes the learning apparently thought hot temp at 2am would be nice. Freezing at waking up time. Now stopped working and I’ve had to use my gym to shower for the past week
I may just be unlucky though!

@Discombobble mine is nest too and I really like their products normally. I’m willing to accept this is just unlucky or I’m not using it correctly. Right now we have no heat or hot water and no way to start it up. Engineers coming at 2 and I might update here if it’s useful!

fyi I have had Nest doorbell and loved. And I have Nest smoke alarms which are great too. And I like the look of the thermostat but it’s been terrible to operate and now completely dead

Sounds like it’s faulty! I installed mine myself as the existing thermostat had given up the ghost - I’m frankly amazed how easy it was, and it’s worked fine

You can turn the learning setting off

We have tado, it’s great. The upstairs in our house is really warm and downstairs is open plan so quite cold. I like how each radiator gets to a set temperature then turns off. We also have set rooms that do not come on at weekends (WFH office).

it’s definitely reduced the cost of heating our house.

HappyHolidai · 16/11/2024 11:58

I have Hive and the fancy thermostat is just a very expensive box, in my opinion.

What I do have and love are the programmable radiator valves so I can have different rooms warm at different times, and boost just the one I am in.

But until the fancy thermostat box "learning" takes account of the data from the valves - or even learns from each valve individually and does sensible things with the data - it's no use to me.

Nest. To clarify, I live on my own, and the thermostat is in the living room where I spend most of my time, so I don’t need a complicated programme

JetskiSkyJumper · 16/11/2024 12:01

Our thermostat is right next to a radiator in the warmest part of the house (when it's sunny anyway) which is a pain. Also the controls are in my young adults bedroom which is also a pain when it's cold and we need a boost. A smart thermostat would solve those issue for us,
