Yellow stickers fraud - unbelievable!

I picked up some reduced smoked salmon in Sainsbo's today but at the self checkout it came up as full price. An assistant altered it and told me they have to do it manually as people are able to make their own yellow sticker barcodes and are using them on self checkouts.
As above - Unbelievable!

Scammers are gonna scam. If they think they can get away with it, they will

Shocking but perhaps not surprising. About 40 years ago a woman I knew who was doing a Ph.D. at the time told me that she and her partner always swapped over the price labels as they went round the supermarket (years before barcodes, everything had a sticky price label added with a price gun) so they would walk out with steak for the price of mince, olive oil instead of corn oil, and so on. She seemed to think this was clever and was utterly unrepentant. I thought and think it was appalling. I mention the Ph.D. because at the time I thought someone with that level of education aiming for an academic or professional career really ought to have better morals. (Not sure I'd be so naive now, sadly.)

That doesn't make any sense. If they have indeed made barcodes that the Sainsbury's system can recognise then they would just scan it and it would work. Sainsbury's manually inputting the price when a different barcode is scanned (i.e. the "real" yellow label) would make no difference whatsoever.

Yes, yellow reduced stickers don’t work in Sainsburys anymore which is really annoying when you self checkout.

There's some idiot on Instagram doing this on baby milk as a protest against formula companies overcharging. Not great if you are one of the financially stretched customers who gets pulled in at the checkouts.
I've stopped using the handheld scanners at Tesco because they are checking your bag so often now. It totally takes away the convenience of the whole thing. Apparently people are not scanning all products.

Yes, exactly. Why is the colour of the label making any difference?
I can only guess it's because you can peel off a yellow barcode from another item. If you were creating your own, you would have to print and stick your own on, but it wouldn't matter what colour it was.

Surely easier just to scan everything on the self-checkout as weighed baking potatoes?

I used to work at tk Maxx and remember this woman coming to till with fancyish shoes and reduced sticker hanging off (they don't stick the same the second time) then when I scanned it came up for qline, likely sweeties or socks etc. When I said this to her , her face went bright red. Said I would look for correct price. She was very quick to say she would just leave them. It's still theft price difference was about £40

I think Sainsbury's have made their self checkouts so no discount stickers work. So assistants have to do discounts manually when asked.
