It's been a few days now. I've tried Vicks, I've propped myself up. I'm exhausted

Please give me tips..

I feel your pain. I've been recommended adding more pillows so it lifts me up whilst i sleep. hope it works!

Iamnuts · 13/11/2024 23:57

Lemon juice, honey mixed with hot water.

MessyNeate · 13/11/2024 23:58

I've got four pillows AND a v shape pillow.

Fingers crossed it works for you

Sounds crazy I know but put some vicks all over feet especially soles, put some socks on, honestly try it

notanothernamechange24 · 14/11/2024 00:01

Have you got any olbas oil?
Put a few drops in boiled water and inhale (obviously don't burn yourself!)

I agree with lemon juice, honey and hot water sipped. I read a research paper years ago and it was more effective at suppressing a tickly cough than commercial cough mixtures.

I will get some in the morning! Thank you!

Tried the Vicks on the feet. Will try again

Is it a tickly or chesty cough? I find that for a tickly cough, if you use a bit of sore throat numbing spray, it gets rid of the tickle long enough to get to sleep :). This is after years and years of struggling with a horrendous tickly cough for weeks every time I got a cold.

StormingNorman · 14/11/2024 00:05

Jakeman’s cough sweets in the black bag. It’s important you get the black bag and not the other other flavours.

MessyNeate · 14/11/2024 00:08

It's tickly but my chest hurts. I find once I start coughing I struggle to catch my breathe.

I ache all over too,

Also peri menopausal so boiling hot. With the fan on. But the breeze hurts my skin, and I have a pounding headache.

I'm being a complete baby, I've spent all week looking after my poorly teens who are now feeling much better and have gone off to their dad for 3 days. DH is away at sea until the new year. So I'm moping on my own watching bake off

I believe that small doses of opiates can help to suppress a cough. Over-the-counter co-codamol, ie paracetamol with a hint of codeine, might work. Although opiate addiction is not fun, so be very careful!

pippapipps · 14/11/2024 00:11

Peel an onion and cut in half and leave by your bed..sounds mad but I read this years ago and always did it for coughs in the house..it worked but the room will smell like an onion by morning..there are worse smells 🤪

Vicks on feet. Utterly barmy. Works like a charm.

Just did this. I hate wearing socks. I'm that person. But I actually haven't coughed since! Mind over matter maybe?

I've used DH's socks so I don't ruin my own Grin

Night nurse.
Life changing stuff.

I had a really bad cough for a week and couldn't sleep. I finally got some night nurse and I slept like a baby. Best sleep I'd had in years.

You're an absolute write off the next day though, so wouldn't recommend if you are driving or working the next morning!!

TequilaNights · 14/11/2024 00:23

If you have a nasal drip when laying down causing you to cough more when your trying to sleep, lay on your front.

I took night nurse at 10pm 😩 usually works a treat for me. Luckily not due in work until tomorrow night!

Boobs are too big and achy for this sadly 🤯

My granny used to make me have diced raw onion in between two slices of white bread. Don’t know why it works but it does.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/11/2024 00:39

If it's a sore / uncomfortable throat triggering the cough, chloroseptic throat spray is great, it numbs it.

Also honey, lemon (plenty of both) and hot water. Stick some brandy (or whiskey Envy) in it.

I always drink it in bed, because I fall asleep almost instantly

MoonWoman69 · 14/11/2024 00:41

Eat some pineapple or drink pineapple juice before bed, it has something in it that supresses coughing! Works for me!

Lemon juice, honey mixed with hot water.

That's what I use. Even when it goes cold during the night, it seems to work.

BirthdeighParteigh · 14/11/2024 00:47

Codeine and a lidocaine throat spray.
