6 week threadworm nightmare

Rosieposieposie · 13/11/2024 22:46

Rosieposieposie
We have had threadworms in our house for
6 f-ing weeks! I'm at my wits end.
Some people say just take the meds and it'll be fine.
I have changed beds/towels/pj/knickers daily for 3-4 days after treatment every time we use it.
I then repeat the treatment 2 weeks later but they have usually come back a day or two before then.
On the day and few days after treatment I clean the whole house top to bottom.
I'm so exhausted doing this on top of all the other jobs needed to be done for a family of 4. My two kids are 4 and 2.
Help!
Has anyone else been in this position? The thought that it only takes one microscopic egg to be ingested and we're in the same boat again is making me feel mad. Why does this keep happening!?

In Poland is 3 different available Zentel, Pyrantelum, Vermox
I think it was Zentel but in UK is use for animals.

Ethny · 24/11/2024 17:30

@Rosieposieposie how are you doing? My little one complained about an itchy anus again. 13 days after the last dose. At 5 pm though, not during the night

Rosieposieposie · 24/11/2024 22:37

@Ethny urgh for us it's always started up again just before the two week second dose! Are you going to treat her again?
I'm not sure but I think they're gone. I haven't seen any since the first one. But have seen bums that look like they have worms on my kids!
Following all the cleaning regimen and hoping for the best. But I do see kids in my girls' school scratching away so maybe I'm fighting a loosing battle 🙈

Yep. Everyone was treated. If I didn’t have a newborn I wouldn’t be bothered as it could be just an irritation.

Cartwrightandson · 27/11/2024 09:39

It'll take a minimum of 6 weeks from the first treatment to fully clear

They're back in the little one. Again, I haven't seen them but he has a red raw bottom and itchy at night. Got to wait to speak to the doctor on Mon but I don't know what they're going to say. It's exhausting me, so fed up! I don't know what to do.

Oh, poor thing! It is a nightmare, isn’t it? When did you treat the little one last time? I don’t think GP will help unfortunately. You may need a specialist in pediatric infectious diseases.

I’m desperate. I found 2 worms on me yesterday. The last dose of ovex was only 6 days ago. If you found someone who can help you - please message me. I’m so depressed

It's crazy how much it can take over. All the cleaning and washing is exhausting. And you have a newborn? I've dosed us all again and will get advice tomorrow I think.
I've heard about pumpkin seeds (can be ground) and papaya seeds (most be whole) being a thing. How you can get kids to eat whole papaya seeds is beyond me.
I haven't actually seen worms since the first one but bums get rid and itchy at night 🤷‍♀️ going to ask them if they think it could be anything else.
Sorry to ask but were the worms like knickers area or somewhere else. I'm always wondering how far they stray 🤢🤢

Wipe door handles and taps as well. Everyone had their own towel. Wash, rinse ,repeat. Short ,clean nails.

Doing it all for 6 weeks + weekly ovex. No luck

I spotted them when I was in shower 😬. I was washing my bum and felt something there

If they're still in nappies chances are you'd see worms in their poo, if you inspect it 🤢. When my ds had they could be seen in the toilet and underwear at night.

Keep nails short and scrubbed.

Are you washing everything at a high temperature with a good detergent? Not a mild eco friendly one, that won't cut it.

Have you spoken to nursery, chances are it's coming from there and they need to do a deep clean of everything including things like sandpits and water trays.

If there's a class WhatsApp group put a message on there telling everyone to get treated.

Rainbow24x · 19/12/2024 23:17

@Rosieposieposie jumping on this thread a little late. Have you had any luck in getting rid of them?

Ethny · 24/02/2025 10:01

@Rosieposieposie how are you doing? Did you manage to get rid of worms?

Lovelysummerdays · 24/02/2025 10:11

I think Ovex does work. It takes some days though and they seem extra energetic in the dying throws. I take Ovex once a week for three weeks and that seemed to break the cycle.

Apparently they dislike garlic so incorporate lots of that into your diet. Low sugar plenty of fibre, grated carrot and apple is like a colon cleanse.

Rosieposieposie · 25/02/2025 00:02

Ha ha! Funny you posted here today as I'm feeling suspicious as my young one is unsettled in the night recently. I haven't seen worms or checked for them yet. Too scared. I may just treat us all.

I think we got rid of them before. I never want them back! The worst things ever, they made me so so worked up.

@Rosieposieposie I hope it’s nothing 🤞🏼

I treated our family today again. Last dose was only 6 weeks ago. But yesterday my dd complained about the itchy bum twice. It happened during the day though and she usually complains about every little scratch or bump. So I hope it’s not worms. And I even checked twice this night. So I won’t be overly paranoid and wash only bedding and towels today. But I don’t want to risk it with a 5 months old. Poor dd always washes her hands now even before every snack. It affects my anxiety so much.

I know!
I hope you don't have them again. So crap that you were going through that with a new born too. It's very difficult to not let it take over. Invisible eggs that live for two weeks etc, you're just constantly thinking about it.
I might treat our lt again too. My youngest is also having loose stools. Did yours have that too? I haven't seen one yet in a nappy....

My youngest is fine so far. I don’t know for sure if she has it or not. It’s hard to say if it is a sleep regression or smth else. But her diapers are fine.

When you have had them have you noticed small white things on your underwear? Not moving. Could look like skin flakes at times or tiny thread like. Happens at any time not just at night. I don’t know wether it’s linked to threadworms or not and feel I am going out of my mind

I believe it’s dead skin. More washing -> skin is more dry -> white flakes
