Such a stalwart of theatre, classic TV and film. Loved him on the Canal Journeys with Prunella Scales. RIP

Oh no, that's so sad. They were so devoted to each other.

Very, very, sad news. I watched the canal series also. He was really devoted to Prunella and determined to keep life as normal as possible for her. She may not understand that he has died (that's if they break the news to her) but I'm sure she will miss his presence in her life.

He was so good in Brass.

Sad to hear this. He was a great actor.

He seemed genuinely nice, a lovely husband and dad and decent human being as well as a great actor. Sad to read he has died.

Thoughts especially for Prunella Scales. I have never seen such a demonstration of love between two people as on the Canal journeys.

RIP, I fist saw him in Edward VII back in the 70s. Fine actor. Poor Prunella, left without him and with dementia.

I'm watching an episode of Great Canal Journeys right now and it's so moving seeing how devoted they were too each other and how dependent on him Pru was on him even then - I think it's a 2016 episode. It will be terribly difficult for her and their children I fear.

Sad news, and my heart goes out to Prunella. Awful as it sounds I hope they are reunited soon.
