yes I overdid it. isn't that how it's marketed. ate a pint of it every few days for a week. Yes I learned my lesson. Has anyone else felt sick and ill after eating this stuff?!

Sad person here who had to look up what a halo top is. Did you eat each one all in one go, or spread out? If the former, I'd guess they've got too much rubbish for body to properly cope with in one go. Also, depends what the rest of your diet is like, ie are you eating refined carbs, other sugary things in the day as well.

Either way, I assume they're really nice, so hope you enjoyed

BanningTheWordNaice · 11/11/2024 10:54

I don’t think they market it to suggest eating a pint every few days, no. Tbh sweeteners always make me feel worse than just sugar.

Thatcastlethere · 11/11/2024 10:59

I ate 2 full tubs a night for a couple of weeks once! I did get the runs mildly after a few days... but no I didn't really feel sick.
It might be just that that's quite a high volume of food to put in your stomach if you don't do it regularly, even tho it's not that many calories.. so perhaps that's what's made you feel sick?

Just looked up the ingredients list… that’s a lot of UPFs. You might be sensitive to one or more of them, we haven’t evolved to eat that stuff.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 11/11/2024 11:06

Halo top the ice cream? It’s full of crap, just like those skinny bars.

I won’t buy any low fat, fat free, reduced fat etc products anymore. They’re full of rubbish, you’re better off eating the proper thing.

i remember when everything I ate was low fat etc when doing ww or sw, I got used to the taste but when I came to eat the proper version of things I honestly felt like I were in heaven!

CoastalCalm · 11/11/2024 11:07

Possibly the artificial sweetners , I have real issues with sucralose for example

MrsSchnickelfritz · 11/11/2024 11:08

I can eat a pint over the course of one evening for sure. If I ate it all in one go I'd probably feel sick - and if I did that few times in a week I would be too.

Too much of anything - whether it's processed or not - is never a good idea

potatocakesinprogress · 11/11/2024 11:11

The other brands are nicer and cheaper. I love the Oppo salted caramel sticks as well.

yeah but you'd gain 2 stone a year eating the full calorie versions in the quantities the OP does

Allmarbleslost · 11/11/2024 11:14

Is it full of sweeteners? Sweeteners give mA a very upset stomach.

PlopSofa · 11/11/2024 11:23

The second largest ingredient is a synthetic glucose polymer called polydextrose.

This adds 5.5g of fibre per 100g.

in nornal ice cream you’d have no fibre. Milk does not contain fibre.

It could double up as a constipation remedy it’s so high.

baked beans has 6g of fibre by comparison.

then there’s ethryitol a sugar that isn’t absorbed so well by the body, but is linked to palpitations and heart attacks. https://www.technologynetworks.com/applied-sciences/news/artificial-sweetener-drinks-linked-to-heart-flutters-384484#:~:text=One%20paper%2C%20published%20last%20year,sweetener%20erythritol%20in%20their%20blood.

Then there’s stevia in it which messes up the microbiome.

Guar gum, another stabiliser.

It’s not really food is it?

No wonder you feel unwell.

Bear in mind some people are more sensitive to these sorts of additives.

Artificial Sweetener Drinks Linked to Heart Flutters

Adults who regularly drank pure, unsweetened fruit juices, on the other hand, had a lower risk of atrial fibrillation.

Ficklebricks · 11/11/2024 11:27

It contains Erythritol and Oligofructose.

According to Google:

"Erythritol is poorly absorbed by the body, which can cause water to build up in the intestines. This can lead to bloating, diarrhea, nausea, cramps, and gas. "

"Oligofructose can cause intestinal gas (flatulence), intestinal noises, bloating, stomach cramps, and diarrhea."

I'm not surprised you felt so unwell!

VestPantsandSocks · 11/11/2024 11:33

Its soooo synthetic, had to stop eating it and I will pretty much eat anything!

Kurokurosuke · 11/11/2024 11:35

i would guess your problem isn’t “halo top” , but “a pint every few days”

OldTinHat · 11/11/2024 11:38

I've never eaten that, but just to say eating two packs of fresh pineapple and a carton of pineapple juice over three days has left me clinging to the loo!

Overthinker89 · 11/11/2024 11:50

well the good news is I've never wanted to eat salad and decent quality food so much in my life. My diet is usually pretty good tbh but was really craving sugar and read that these were better for you than most sweet treats. the slogan is "stop at the bottom" and they were on sale so yep got carried away. NEVER AGAIN. Feel so rough. Will treat my body better in future. from what I've read some people who do this are fine with halo top and some not at all. I just want to cook and eat healthily again now so maybe that's a good thing. I'm pretty active and am at the lower end of the weight scale so maybe my.body just couldn't handle it?! if anyone else had a similar experience that'd be good to know!

But eating full fat fills you up quicker so she wouldn't be eating those huge quantities though. I believe there have been studies where having low sugar or low fat products actually makes you put on weight rather than reduce it. Which is a scary thought.

lol are you pregnant and trying to get the baby out??

I did that when I was 38 weeks. Worked well with both babes, on time and early!

Dark chocolate is full of polyphenols. These are good plant things that help your body reduce inflammation and that kind of thing.

Go for crystallised ginger, nuts and dark chocolate. You get the strong flavours, which means you need less, the sensory crunch of the nuts, and the zing of the ginger. This is definitely better for you. Nuts and ginger are also very very healthy. Both are anti inflammatory.

30% of the fat in nuts is not absorbed. So you can have more than you think.

It would be better for you than eating weird goo.
