Specs/Glasses question - should I have told the optician?

I picked up new glasses last week. I have only had a couple of pairs previously.

The thing is, they seem fine for one eye but not for the other. And it was only when I realised this that I remembered I have an astigmatism in that eye - diagnosed at three previous eye exams.

Should I have told the optician this? I would have done if I remembered, but I also thought she would have picked up on it in the exam. She also had my last pair of glasses to measure the old prescription.

Im also not sure how much of the problem is because of this, and how much because they are “task based vari-focals” which I’ve not had before.

Basically I am clueless. So is it going to make a difference? Should I go back? And is this something they should have picked up on?

I would take them back and ask for them to be checked.

Yes, she should have found your astigmatism on the eye exam.

Not sure whether it's the wrong astigmatism correction that's causing the problem - with varifocals it can be tricky to balance the nearsightedness and farsightedness in each eye (sometimes they're different) along with the astigmatism, but tell her they're not working for you and have her re-do the refraction.
