Next hygienist appt is March next year 🤯

I knew dental hygienist appointments were hard to come by but this is ridiculous, isn't it? What's the cause? Don't tell me there's still a covid backlog? March 2025 will be five years after the start of the pandemic (wow, that's a scary thought).

I'm wondering if I could get a deep clean in another country when on holiday? (Not that I can afford a holiday, really).

Be glad you've got one. Not a single dentist in our county is taking on patients either private or NHS. Apparently it's the 'dental Sahara of the UK'.

We got kicked off the books at our normal dentist that we had gone to every 6 months for decades because we hadn't been in two years before COVID - that is because they kept cancelling our appointments, then we didn't go during COVID as it was emergency's only. And now we are screwed. They have at least kept children on their books.

I'm not surprised by your reply, @Singleandproud . I've been phoning round trying to get something sooner elsewhere and I've been cut off by receptionists almost before I can get the question out (some of them were pretty snotty about it, too, as though I'd asked an outrageous question).

It's similar here, I'll be travelling 50 minutes for this appointment and paying double the going rate, so around 160 vs. 75/80 normally. No question of NHS.

Why isn't this bigger news? I feel like we're on a sinking ship and everyone's just standing on the deck waiting.

It's always been like this at our dentist, even before covid.
After each visit to the hygienist I make the next appointment for 6 months out, same with the dentist.
