Can't make my 8 month old happy

My usually very happy smiley baby has a proper grump on and nothing I am doing is working. Teething, gassy, and been up since 3am. She's had some Calpol and is so overtired but can't sleep. Is going from laughing to crying to laughing again. I don't know what to do apart from hold her. She looked at her shoe and burst into tears 🤷

Put the tv on, make a cup of tea and just sit with her. Other than that, put her in her cot and leave her to cry it out.

Next time you give her Calpol take her out in the pushchair for a walk 20 mins after so it has time to work and she has a good sleep but teething is miserable take it easy for both of you. My wisdom teeth took years to come through and quite frankly I felt the same.

Just hold her, cuddle her. Maybe a walk or a bath but otherwise just cuddle her

Put her in the carrier and go out and get some fresh air and a nice coffee, even if it's just for half an hour! X

You don't need to fix everything, if you've done all you can, just be there.

Okdaisy · 06/11/2024 11:41

Have you tried ibruprofen? I find it better than calpol for teething

Seeline · 06/11/2024 11:47

We all have grumpy days!

As long as you have made sure that she is comfortable and safe, all you can do is hold her and give cuddles if that seems to help.
I agree that a good dose of fresh air often helps you both.

Put her in the car and go and get a takeaway coffee from the drive thru. She will sleep and you can chill!

I just got back from a baby group. I'd already booked it so thought we might as well give it ago. She crawled to the middle of the floor was smiling, playing with the puppets and other babies and completely ignored me - you would never have guessed we'd had the morning we'd had. I think it was better for both of us to get out of the house. She fell asleep in the pushchair on the way home. I think it's going to be an afternoon of cuddles.

Being distracted does help all of us take the focus of our aches and pains so perhaps keeping busy is the key

Try alternating paracetamol with ibuprofen and don't wait until she's in lots of pain before giving it to her or it won't work. teething can be really painful. Just remember, this will pass ☺️💛
