How did you find an address?

Did you get a reply?

Yes, to Cliff Richards when I was ten. Sent it to his fan club 😁

Love that! I feel like I've missed the boat and this isn't a thing anymore.

Not fan mail but condolences to Richard Coles - I read an interview and my heart went out to him (when his husband died he received some horrendous mail). I didn't want him to feel that all randoms felt like that or were homophobic. He did reply, yes, to accept the hug. I think his email at the time was public knowledge as he was a reverend.

Surgicalprecison · 02/11/2024 21:23

No but a while ago someone on here wanted to send some to John Major, I wonder if they ever did.

OldTinHat · 02/11/2024 21:25

I read a book by Ben Fogles, year before last. I was so inspired by his story that I emailed his publishers.

I was delighted to receive a reply.

LizzieVeraker · 02/11/2024 21:27

I sent a letter to Princess Diana when I was at Primary school, and her Lady in Waiting replied.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 02/11/2024 21:27

I raised money for an organisation I worked for by begging asking celebrities to donate an item for auction. Early 90s there was a book you could get hold of that listed celebrities management. Easily found online now.
Emma Thompson & EastEnders cast were lovely and very generous.
Edward Woodward sent a very funny note.
Tony Robinson was sweet, as was Felicity Kendall.

MissMarplesNiece · 02/11/2024 21:29

Not to a celebrity as such but I've written to a couple of authors about books that I've enjoyed. I sent the letters to them via publishers or literary agents where addresses are generally easy to find out.

Oh and I have written to an author before to express admiration and to ask about something in his non-fiction book - I did get a reply, yes.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 02/11/2024 21:41

This is encouraging but I'm stuck finding an address. I want to send a (minor) actor a poster and a stamped addressed envelope in the hope he will sign and return it to me, but all I can find is a booking agent and she doesn't have an email listed, just a booking form. I doubt she would be interested in helping me anyway (understandably).

He does have Cameo but I don't want a video. Maybe if I pay for a video and ask in the message, he would give me an address?

I suppose I just have to hope he eventually does a con in the UK I can go to!

I'm not a weird stalker by the way, just really like this film and want a signed poster.

@MeowCatPleaseMeowBack google the actors name with the term management, or management team, managed by. There’s always management.
Not sure if you’d find any details via equity?

Found this site bookingagentinfo.com. see you’ve got a booking agent , try them. They’re all in the business of promoting their client.

DreadPirateRobots · 02/11/2024 22:36

My 8yo did send a letter and some drawings to the writer of the Wings of Fire books, or at least to the publisher in NYC. No reply, sadly.

Miloarmadillo2 · 02/11/2024 22:41

We went through a phase of writing letters to various celebrities and companies as students (we were bored - we didn’t have a telly!) Johnny Morris stands out as one who sent us back a really sweet personal letter and a signed photo, and Tetleys sent us teabag tongs when we complained that we burned our fingers when they changed to round teabags.

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/11/2024 22:43

Not fan mail as such but when I was a kid and into creative writing I'd written a story containing various Roald Dahl characters. I'm not sure why (maybe a competition or something?) but it was sent to his publishers and I received a letter back from his family.

Edited

Just tried this and no management comes up, just this booking agent. So I looked more into their contact details and it says "We are unable to forward fan mail." 😰I'll email anyway to ask if they know the right address for fan mail. The worst they'll do is ignore me.

We all had to write to the authors of our favourite book when we were at primary school in the 80s. I recieved a reply and a signed book back, which was quite a good result.

When was this? I'm an author and know lots of authors, and all of us are genuinely touched and excited to get messages from readers.

Publishers are incredibly slow and most publishing correspondence is done through email, so they don't routinely send mail to authors and may only forward fan letters once or twice a year. You may still get a reply!

Do they have the option of messaging them on instagram or twitter ? I know some do

Probably four or five months back. It's a very popular book series so I did warn him that a reply was unlikely, and I think he's now long forgotten doing it, but a reply would make his month, so here's hoping.

I wrote a fan letter to Tobias Menzies when I was 14 (I’m 40 now) and literally put his name and c/o BBC studios on the envelope (he was on casualty at the time.) It worked because he replied with a letter and signed photo! ❤️

Ds wrote to Cliff Richards when he was about 6yo.

He asked him why he didn't wear armour or carry a sword if he was a knight.

He wrote back a lovely handwritten letter saying he was a peaceful knight so didn't need them. Ds was really pleased.

tunainatin · 02/11/2024 23:18

I sent a poem to my favourite band when I was 14. Think there used to be addresses on album sleeves? Got a poem back from one of the band members, which was very sweet!

sugarpiehoneymunch · 02/11/2024 23:20

@Surgicalprecison I remember that!!

BooToYouHalloween · 02/11/2024 23:29

JK Rowling a couple of years ago. Got a very nice letter back from her assistant.
