Has anyone got a speeding ticket in France?

We got flashed on the 15th September but not had anything through yet! Has anyone else had one and how long did it take to come through the post? I'm getting very mixed messages on Google. Some saying as long as 100 days but the longer you take to pay the higher the fine is.

I had one, and they sent it through fairly quickly. However, I heard that since Brexit, the DVLA were no longer providing name and address details to the French authorities. (Apparently, the French never did provide details of French registered speeders in the UK)

Oh that's interesting @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm just worried the fine is mounting up if we haven't paid but I guess it may never come through!

You may have an issue if you take the same car back in and it gets picked up though.

Yeah we do want to go back next year @unsync 🫣 but not really sure how it would be flagged up!

We got a fine in Spain 2 years ago. It did come through a while after it happened. I think they got the address via Ireland?

Sanch1 · 03/11/2024 21:15

I was flashed in France last year and got nothing!

rickandmorts · 03/11/2024 22:40

Can you remember how long it took to come through @cakeorwine?

And that's reassuring @Sanch1! Hopefully nothing comes of it..

Is it a rental or you own car? I’ve had a rental fine almost a year later

rickandmorts · 04/11/2024 09:17

It was DP driving my car @WhereDoBrokenHeartsGo. Did you have to pay a lot more because the fine was older?

OP posts:

I think it was double or something. It’s impossible to get in touch with anyone so we just paid it. Ours was a rental, so we had to pay admin fee to rental company as well!

Maybe 6 months...

It was on the 2nd most "popular" camera to get a fine on

We got a ticket a few years back. Speed camera at the bottom of a hill where the limit changed….you actually have to brake quite hard to stay under the limit. It took a little while to arrive but the time you have to pay is calculated from the date the ticket is issued, not the date of the offence. It was easy to pay. We actually have a house near there now and we are uber careful around it!

I would say though that you might not actually have been flashed. Often as you pass you catch a reflection of the sun/another vehicles lights and it looks like a flash. If you actually know you were speeding that’s slightly different!

I was flashed once and didn’t receive anything. Driving our own car which has since been back to France without any issues.

Ours was hidden in roadworks after a very sudden speed limit drop. Entirely my fault of course.

cakeorwine · 04/11/2024 19:11

We got flashed in France - but it was one of those new cameras that can detect people on mobile phones - so I think it got DS on his phone, whilst in the passenger seat

rickandmorts · 04/11/2024 22:06

Thanks @MamaBobo. And yeah definitely got flashed, he'd gone wrong on Google maps so was trying to figure out the route and the motorway had dropped from 90kph to 70kph without him realising. Saw a definite flash! Annoying because if he'd followed the satnav right we wouldn't have even been on that road 🤣

That's encouraging to hear @NewNameNoelle! We do want to go back next year so hope there's no issues.

And I didn't even know those cameras existed @cakeorwine!

The speed limits in France did my head in, constantly changing! I did break the limit on the autoroute as we were gong to be late getting the hire car back (got there with 2 mins to spare on the 30mins grace they give you). This was end of Aug, not sure if anything will come through.
