Parking charge notice from council

I paid a PCN from my local council but, other than my DM, anyone I've mentioned the PCN to has told me they don't bother and that beyond a couple of letters nothing happens? I would have thought the council would have chased it. Or sold the debt as part of a batch to some collection agency. Do you pay PCNs if you get them? It's my 1st PCN and I'm in Scotland if that matters. I did get a penalty notice from a private car park in Northern Ireland about 10-12 years ago and I paid that too.

I pay them..I ignored one once and it turned into a 424 quid court fine. Thankfully I was able to pay it before it turned into a CCJ. Never ignore them.

Don't ignore council ones, they don't forget them.

Council I would pay. Private car park I would appeal. I wouldn’t ignore either.

If you legitimately don't park according to the rules then why shouldn't you pay?

😱that's the fear I had! £40 for peace of mind, I wasn't exactly dancing but I'd rather pay the £40 than worry every time I got mail or an unknown number.
