Why do I never get a “nice surprise” re cost of things?

Just had a quote for some work. 3 grand more than I’d guesstimated. Same happened in the summer for a small decorating job. Now, I have no issue with saying it’s out of my price range, but my point is why is it always a nasty shock rather than a nice surprise of a lower amount than you were expecting?! It’s the same when I weigh myself ..always a shock and not the nice kind!! Im not even one of life’s optimists 😁

IME if you get a quote and are pleasantly surprised chance are its a cowboy and will wind up costing you exponentially more in money and stress!

Also IME I only get a pleasant surprise with my weight if Ive been ill for a week or more!!LOL😄
