Please tell me about Apple Watches

I’m getting a second hand Apple Watch nine and excited. Partly getting it because we might be ttc next year but also want to use natural cycles as contraception until then ideally.

I also want to track fitness and be more motivated.

Currently in bed with Covid and thinking of nice exciting things.

I’ve just spent £300 which is crazy money for me.

hi, i love mine and it's ancient - a s3 which I don't think you can get any more

I haven't heard about the TTC element, I would have thought an app could do that as well as a smartwatch (don't quote me) but the fitness tracking on mine is excellent, it talks to my strava app and I couldnt live without it.

Battery life is not great but I just charge it overnight every night and it never runs out during the day. Getting notifactions on it is great. The best part of all though is the fact that you can easily find your phone with it though by activating the little bell! I use that all the time.

You can also use applepay on it, but I find it less fiddly just to use my phone for that.

Thanks @Clearinguptheclutter

I think it monitors your stats for ovulation and can tell you days that you’re most fertile which is really useful ?

I would like to wear it overnight though

Surely you have to input some info - it doesn’t magically know when you’re ovulating! Or perhaps it does!!

I have to admit I used old fashioned charts!

theotherfossilsister · 29/10/2024 10:36

@Clearinguptheclutter i think it does, not entirely sure how

You’ll be fine wearing it overnight, just give it an hour before bed, while you’re in the shower maybe, then another hour when you wake up. That’s enough to keep mine going but I supppose it depends how much you use it.

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/10/2024 10:41

Agree it charges up very fast so not a show stopper if you want to wear it overnight

I sometimes charge mine in the car

poetrylover · 29/10/2024 11:00

I got annoyed by mine at night so charge it then. But I also love it. I use the fitness tracker stuff the most. It then tells the app on my phone and hey presto all your info is logged. I also love the fact that I can set alarms on my phone and they remind me of meetings etc on my watch. Clever!

ErrolTheDragon · 29/10/2024 11:01

I really like mine - good for exercise tracking (DH and I got our first ones on 2019 and they helped keep us sane during covid doing 'local walks'!)

No idea about cycle tracking though, past that stage.

Manchesterbythesea · 29/10/2024 11:06

I have an old one. Series 3 maybe. Had to replace the strap but just got one on eBay. I love mine. The notifications is handy and logging excercise, steps etc. Can also sync playlists from Spotify on to it so I can leave my phone at home when I’m out walking. Battery is still really good on it.

pistachiopesto · 29/10/2024 11:27

I just got one recently and love it. I got a series 9 like you for cycle tracking ahead of TTC next year. I’ve only had it a couple of months but it works well with Natural Cycles so far - you wear it overnight and it tracks your temperature, it can tell when you’ve ovulated when your temperatures rise above the baseline. It has an algorithm it uses to calculate everything and it accurately predicted when my first period would arrive after being on the pill for years which impressed me. They recommend wearing it on your inside wrist overnight for better temperature accuracy, which works fine for me. I’m not sure I would rely it on 100% if I was in a situation where an unexpected pregnancy would be a disaster, but for getting back in tune with my cycles it’s great.

I usually pop it on charge after dinner for an hour and then put it on overnight, never have any issues with that as it charges quickly.

I also like it for exercise tracking, sleep monitoring, and paying for the bus without getting my phone out. You can also load playlists and podcasts onto it if you want to go for a walk without your phone. I have Snoopy on my watch face and he makes me smile whenever I check the time!

Sunkisst · 29/10/2024 11:32

I wear mine nearly 24/7. Only time I don’t is when it’s charging (before bed). I love this gadget.

theotherfossilsister · 29/10/2024 11:41

This sounds great @pistachiopesto

We might start to ttc around march next year, though my partner is very on the fence. Maybe we’ll be ttc at the same time though?

Yes, it sounds like we might be on the same schedule 🙂Good luck with it all! I really like the Natural Cycles app because it has a lot of good info about your body, hormones etc - very educational which I’m sure I will find helpful in the process. It can recommend when you should take ovulation tests as well.

Sunkisst · 29/10/2024 12:10

@pistachiopesto Omg the Snoopy face is amazing!!! How have I been without this all of this time.

pistachiopesto · 29/10/2024 12:24

@Sunkisst ahh it’s so cute and it syncs up with your day somehow - when it’s raining where you are Snoopy gets an umbrella out, when it’s nighttime he’s getting ready for bed etc. I’m easily pleased but it really entertains me!
