Side hustle that turned into a real career?

Does such a thing exist?
I have a full time career that pays well and my time is limited but I would like to learn a new skill or start a sideline that could turn into a real career or business if/when I am in a position to give it more time.

I don't need to make money from it now so am prepared to invest time to train or learn the requisite skills.
I don't have the social skills for retail.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

I learned how to make historical costumes. I sell them here and there alongside my FT job but don't put much energy into doing that really; it's just a hobby and I enjoy going to the oddities markets. DH is a violinist and travels to play concerts (outside of his career).

They're quite niche though. It depends what you're good at? I mention the stuff we do because they're things we actually enjoy - I think it'd be a bit harder to suddenly pick up a skill you might not be interested in.

Are you good with academics? Do you have degrees? Maybe you could do tutoring/proofreading? Are you crafty and could you do something like make clothing/jewellery? Or are you thinking of something a bit bigger than that, like training in nails for example and setting up a business like that?

See if any franchise opportunities appeal to you?

Some people do Day Trading at home online (buying and selling stocks and shares in order to make a profit).

It's a bit like gambling with research attached. Like gambling there are no guarantees!

Thanks. I might have to do some research on stocks and shares. It has been years since I read the Financial Times!
I'm not nearly nice or groomed enough to do anything related to the personal grooming industry.
I'm too scruffy and far too intolerant of anything that might be considered vain (I'm nearly 60 and my mother despairs).

Does anyone have any other ideas. It's hard to think of something that can work as a part time venture and then potentially size up.

Think about hobbies etc. Are there things you wish you could buy that aren’t out there, yet! I’ve had a couple of clients done really well to source products for their hobby and then buy in bulk and resell via online platforms to other hobbyists.
