Visiting a friend who has a cat with fleas

Hi, I don't know anything about cats. I'm due to visit a friend who has one. He has told me the cat has fleas.
Will the fleas travel back to me to my house?!

They can! They did once for me! Stay away!

Oh no!

They can but I’ve also visited someone who’s cat and dog had fleas and nothing came home with me despite interacting with both of them. The owner was unaware at the time, discovered after my visit!

Technically yes they can. But you can also bring fleas in from outside anyway. They can lay dormant in furnishings/carpets etc until finding a host. I have two cats and wouldn't have guests over if they had fleas.

Is he treating them?

Having years ago taken in a stray cat who had fleas but we didn’t realise until it was too late…it’s not an experience I’d wish on anyone.
Is your friend not treating the fleas? Bearing in mind the eggs will be everywhere 🤢

Be thankful that the friend has told you and don’t go.

I think it's unlikely if the cats are around - they would not be very interested in you.
Fleas can be outside in the garden - I have seen them jumping in the grass in hot sun! But the temperature outside probably isn't warm enough now.

The fleas will always choose a cat if available rather than a human.

So they could come back but it's unlikely.

Is your friend treating the cat? Maybe worth telling him that most fleas are resistant to stuff from the petshop now and a vet trip is needed. Also every room in the house will need spraying with Indorex.
