Canterbury things to do

Hi! We've arrived in Canterbury today and leave Wednesday. What are the must-dos please? We have children aged 9, 6 and 1. We're staying very central. Cathedral is an obvious one :-)

We love short city breaks, and Mumsnet have never let us down with fantastic suggestions!
Thanks!

Is there an Olde part to walk around? Are there any boxes villages near by?

Most of it! Mercery Lane/The Buttermarket is the centre. Explore in all directions from there. (Check out the pottery shop in the Buttermarket, if that's your sort of thing. But perhaps leave the kids outside!)

Not sure what this means, but there are villages all around. Look at the Visit Kent website for suggestions.

Canterbury city centre is wonderfully olde, especially around the cathedral / Buttermarket. As a child, I used to imagine I was a time traveller!

And for the reason why part of it isn't so old - Google "Baedeker raids Canterbury"

If the weather is miserable then unfortunately there isn't a great deal to do.
If it's OK then there are the usual things others have mentioned, there's also a ghost walk and I think they've still got axe throwing at the new Riverside Complex.
Personally, I'd head out of town and go to Whitstable or even Herne Bay (easy bus ride). There may be something on at the castle I'm not sure.
If you fancy something different there's Alpaca walking, pygmy goat walking and Shetland Ponies and lots of other things to do at Quex Park near Birchington.
If you can go further then Howletts is a possibility and nearer than Port Lympne and Leeds castle is lovely.
