More R C-B musings: horsey ones

Any horsey types about?
The fact that RC-B is a show jumper has always rankled with me.
Double-barrelled posho from Cotswold hunting set should be an eventer surely?
Show jumpers are heavy smokers from Yorkshire and dressage riders are tall, thin gay blokes who wear polo necks. Raging stereotypes obviously.
I wonder if it was a deliberate act by Dame J as non-horsey people often conflate all horse sport as 'showjumping'?

DH said exactly the same- despite being a not posh eventer ( recreational) from Yorkshire. I suppose during some of Jilly's formative years there were some huge showjumping stars like Harvey Smith, David Broome etc.

Yes totally agree. Eventing or actually just not competing at all, just hunting and playing polo

I used to work as a groom for a very posh family and they were showjumpers not eventers. The adult son and one of the adult daughters had both been in the British Showjumping junior squad. They were very much of the hunting set and started dabbling with polo while I was there. My life was like something out of a Jilly Cooper novel back then (mid 90s). Happy days!

I don't remember RCB smoking in the books??
