90’s shop selling painted Mediterranean plant pots etc?

Can anyone remember the name of the shop in the early 90’s that sold ceramic pots and big plates etc that were often white with painted flowers? I’ve got one piece that says made in Italy.

Pilot ?

Stretchedresources · 23/10/2024 07:01

The Pier?

makingmakingbaconpancakes · 23/10/2024 07:02

No not Pilot sorry - the Pier! I knew it began with P. I had a lovely stripy plant pot from there and a matching ashtray, and some wine glasses with coloured bobbles on them.

"some wine glasses with coloured bobbles on them"

You're not Hugh Johnson are you?

Definitely Pier. Everyone's birthday present came out of there for years

Hyacinthandrichard · 23/10/2024 07:19

God I loved this shop !!

makingmakingbaconpancakes · 23/10/2024 07:22

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles Hugh Jarse more like! They were a bit like this but they were that greeny coloured recycled glass. Is he famous for his bobbly glasses?!

I loved The Pier! Still got some of their Xmas cards from their closing down sale!

PebbleDashAtOne · 23/10/2024 07:26

There was also the Reject Shop.

GrandesRandonnees · 23/10/2024 07:33

I loved the Reject Shop. There was one (or a local equivalent) in Sheffield on the High Street at the bottom of Fargate and I equipped my student house from there. I don’t remember shopping at The Pier, maybe it was a bit beyond my means at the time. Definitely shopped at Pilot though!

I'm not sure what wone glasses he uses at home but I suspect that they aren't 'bobbly'

* Hugh Jarse more like!*

haha - I really liked the glass in the photo and was just about to Google Hugh Jarse to see if any were available!

The Pier was a great shop

CurlewKate · 23/10/2024 08:17

There was a great Pier in Richmond....

DustyLee123 · 23/10/2024 17:39

It wasn’t Pier. I think it was called the Mediterranean shop, or something like that. Perhaps it wasn’t a nationwide brand.

Oh I loved The Pier! Still got some vases I bought from there ☺️

JackJarvisEsq · 23/10/2024 17:42

Sounds like the sort of thing you could buy in Internaçionale or State of Independence

DustyLee123 · 23/10/2024 17:45

It just sold ceramics, like plant pots/large plates/jugs, and a lot of it was white with simple, brightly coloured flowers or fruit.

The Internstionale?
They did clothes and homewares

Casa Pupo?

Redcrayons · 23/10/2024 18:18

I know the one you mean, but I can’t think of The name.

I’ve got a big blue fruit bowl from there.

also loved The Pier.

smallchange · 23/10/2024 18:20

I think there was a Pier/Internationale shop called Mediterrano or similar back then. Rings a bell anyway.

I loved that shop! I think it was called Spoils, or Spoiled. Pretty much everything I had for my student flats and houses was from there.

The Pier was also awesome and much missed. It was a bit smarter than Spoils though. I’d probably still shop there if it had survived, whereas Spoils was very much young people’s taste. One of my prized finds from there was a cheeseburger bean bag 🙄

GrandesRandonnees · 23/10/2024 18:38

@LoobyDoop2 yes! Spoils! Thank you 😁
