Would you go over and knock on her door?

I found out earlier that the husband of the lady opposite husband passed away on Saturday. I live in a large cul-de-sac and neighbour up the road had just bumped into her and told him. Apparently she's ok about it as he was a difficult man (which I can believe as I'd got that vibe from conversations with him.)

She's a lovely lady and just wanted to let her know that we're thinking about her and if she needs any help with anything (I used to be a Probate secretary and DH can obviously help with diy/a friendly face), to come over. There are clearly no family with her (she has an elderly sister and son is in poor health).

Yes, absolutely do. That would be a lovely gesture.

Yes, I would. I live in a village and an elderly neighbour's husband became terminally ill, and I went and knocked on the door to say I'd there was anything I could do to help please ask. She took me up on it and long story short after he died she became a dear friend for seven years until she died too.
We took her out to dinner, I visited her a couple of times a week, played scrabble with her and watched films with her. She was lovely and I miss her now, three years after she died.

Yes, I would definitely go over. Maybe take something with you like some food.

Yes, that would be lovely. But as you have done here, be specific about the help you and your husband can offer. "Let me know if there's anything I can do" is one of the most meaningless and unhelpful phrases people say (though of course well-meant).
