Raider the dog has just been killed! ☹️
I don’t want to know the ending BUT is this a gradually increasing misery fest?? is it worth sticking with?

Yes, I love it. . But it’s a horror novel so always going to have things dying

titbumwillypoo · 21/10/2024 06:45

Great book, everyone gets what they deserve.

I read it when it first came out so can't remember the details but you've got to expect misery and horror

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 21/10/2024 07:23

Absolutely love this book! Stick with it.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 21/10/2024 07:30

There's a very sad ending for one person in particular but yes the rest of them get what they deserve. If I bought something from Mr Gaunt I think it would be Elvis' sunglasses!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 21/10/2024 07:57

It's glorious, but macabre. How Mr Gaunt preys on people's fixations fascinates me. I adore it.
There are some happy endings for main characters, which isn't always the case with King!
Most people get what they deserve, as PP says.
It's one of my fave books.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 21/10/2024 07:58

Oo what would I buy? Probably a Mrs Hinch book that actually organised my house!

RunningAwayToJoinTheCircus · 21/10/2024 08:06

There's one character who I felt so sorry for, I didn't think he got what he deserved so to speak, it was just sad.
I won't say anything else cos I can't remember when it happens, and don't want to post a spoiler for you, but I found this particular "end" tragic 😥

NooNakedJacuzziness · 21/10/2024 08:20

@RunningAwayToJoinTheCircus - I think we're thinking of the same character. Hurry up and finish it OP so we can discuss - you've probably only got about 900 pages left!!

T4phage · 21/10/2024 08:57

It's alright, but the end part goes on and on and I got bored and skipped some pages.

MrsHelenHuntingdon · 21/10/2024 22:46

Ok, I gave up and read the plot summary online.

I can only say…..’they all get what they deserve’!?

<looks incredulously from thread to plot>

<flicks to end to double check>

……..’They all get what they deserve’!?

They all die violently, often after violently killing someone else!

This is one I’m glad I didn’t stick with - I think I prefer the Dolores Claibornes and The Stands of his repertoire.

I might try a Jane Austen next before going back to Stephen King 🤣🤣
