How much Mumsnet/Facebook/Instagram do you allow yourself per day?

I’m finding that I’m becoming very addicted to my phone. I’m spending vasts amounts on scrolling when I could be doing something more interesting!
I’ve bought a box which locks away my phone and I can only access phone calls, text messages and use WhatsApp. I’m planning on locking my phone away in this box for most of the day.
My problem is that I’m unsure of how much social media time I should allow myself a day? I don’t want to come off them completely as I belong to lots of hobby groups.
I think I’ve lost sight of what’s normal!
What do you do? Thanks.

I don’t limit myself. I do as much scrolling etc as I like. But I guess in a day I also do other things where I can’t be on my phone all the time so naturally have long breaks too. I think all the negativity around what people call “doom scrolling” is a bit weird, it’s just another way to be mindless and relax. I enjoy it and don’t want to put limits on myself.

Reddit is my worst one for wasting time, I deleted FB, insta and Twitter. I don’t restrict my access to MN or Reddit, but I would if I felt that I was spending time there that could be more enjoyably spent elsewhere.

I’ve deleted FB and Insta before but then realised you could still type the address into a browser and it would re-activate!

I don't limit myself but I sometimes waste too much time on Reddit and MN. I don't use Instagram and only scroll FB now and again.

I think for me it’s taken over a bit and become a problem.
I don’t really “doom scroll” as such. I love it and spend a lot of time enjoying the posts I see. I just can’t get off of it. I think my ADHD doesn’t help!

I do get what you mean. I have autism and I find I have a tendency to hyper focus on things, weirdly enough scrolling through here or Instagram helps to quieten my mind. It’s definitely addictive but I guess it depends if you can find balance across the day with other things too.

I don't use insta or FB, but I do use MN and Reddit. I don't limit myself but I probably should.
