Can someone explain global warming to me as if I'm 5?

Every clever person I know believes in it, but I'm too science illiterate to understand!

Can someone explain global warming/ climate change to me in a very dumbed down way?

Please give practical examples, such as why oil is bad etc.

Thanks Smile

Some of the gasses in the atmosphere, commonly called greenhouse gasses, act like a kind of blanket, absorbing energy and stopping heat from escaping earth. This then makes the planet warmer.
The more we continue to live in a way that produces these gasses the warmer the planet will become.

Burning fossil fuels such as oil, coal etc. releases such gases.

The effect is not always of warming. Eg, the impact of warming the planet overall could cause changes to the movement of the jet stream which controls UK weather. If it shifts to a different position it could actually cause a cooler local climate, although the overall global temperature is higher.

This is very @lavenderlou .

Would we end up with a climate similar to Norway/Canada?

Might be worth watching this about tipping points. It’s not a matter of weather changing, it’s about crop failure, flooding, species collapse, mass migration and areas of the planet being unliveable.
