Series 3.
It's telling me the there's a 'parking light' failure but i can't work out what where they are !!

I can't see anything not on, when the lights are on, if that makes sense?

TIA

How old is it? By 6 - 7 years, most cars start to develop the odd electrical fault. I could be a fuse, or degraded wiring coating. Do you know how to turn the parking lights on? If so, try it.

It's not likely to be an MOT failure, as far as I can see.

When you have time, take it to a BMW dealer - I've had faults with VW & Volvo and found that it's less hassle to go to a main dealer, rather than a corner garage, for electrical faults.

Probably your "side lights" which can be usually used when parked by using your indicator stalk up/down to turn the lights on one side for safety.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 19/10/2024 09:09

Aren't parking lights usually what come on if you put the indicator on and the turn the ignition off? Like sidelights but only on the right or left side of the car, front and back. I don't know if they're a different bulb.

I've never use them in my life so might be wrong!

Check the manual which I assume would be online for your model.

Whilst you are at it, check your indicators are working, unless you are the BMW driver who actually uses them.

FrenchandSaunders · 19/10/2024 09:11

It’s the indicator. Left up or down it will put a parking light on one side

Laiste · 19/10/2024 09:13

lol i do use my indicators.

Thank you everyone.

I feel a twat to be honest. I've had a look at the manual - it looks like the parking light is a light inside a light ?

It's 10, so yes might be a bit of dodgy wiring.

I've never really heard the term parking light before, Side lights, yes.

I've only had this one a week.

Really? They're in the Highway Code, you should use them when parking on roads of 40 mph and over, after dark.

Laiste · 19/10/2024 09:21

What the whole time?

Wouldn't that drain the battery?

OP posts:
FrenchandSaunders · 19/10/2024 09:43

Nobody uses them these days OP.

This would be my answer - as I knock them on everyday when I put my steering lock on. I have an older BMW. It could be just the fuse blown which is easy to fix yourself (with the help of you tube) or take it to the garage.

They're very low draw on current. I accidentally put mine on on my motorbike and it started OK after 2 days.

It's not your side lights, it's one light on one side, the side that's on the road

Not all cars have them but I remember one of my previous cars had a P on the light settings dial.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 19/10/2024 17:52

Does this help?

dinmin · 19/10/2024 17:55

On DHs BMW there’s a knob on the right of the steering wheel for the lights. Usually leave them on auto but the setting with the two little lights is parking. Turn to off then turn to that and see what comes on. Altho tbh with his it’s adamant constantly that theres a brake light failure and there isnt
