Spanish pensioners - discounted holidays?

Currently on the Costa del Sol in a large hotel. There’s LOADS of elderly Spanish couples here, all enjoying themselves really well. Huge crowds of them sat in big groups in the evenings, enjoying the Spanish music and singing.
They love to dance, the men are especially good at it and it’s a joy to watch.
Someone said they get free / discounted holidays from the government? What a fantastic idea to keep the hotels full over the quieter months. Why don’t we do this in the UK?

Back to the dancing though, do they get taught in school? They’re so good! Each evening it’s like strictly!

I have no idea about Spain, but in Germany you generally do your first Tanzschule course around the time you are confirmed, so 14 or 15. Formal dancing is one of the enduring social customs.

According to the magic of Google:

As far as I'm aware there's no UK equivalent but it is possible to go to places like Spain or Malta for very little money in the winter. DPs grandparents often used to go to Benidorm for 6 weeks in January/February. They said it was cheaper than putting the heating on at home.
