@PaganOfTheGoodTimes I think the comet would have already set below the horizon when you posted, I too looked for the comet earlier this evening but it was cloudy then.

We were out looking from 6.15 - 8. Blummin clouds here after a clear day though of course.

does anyone know which direction it's in at the mo? I could pop my coat on and go out in search of it but not sure. I can't see it from my titchy one sided flat and wondering if I need to actually walk out of the entire development to see it 😂

Sorry a bit late but it’s currently SE.

@JubilantTurquoiseGerbil thank you

it's actually lovely here (i used to live in london) but we're also surrounded by tall trees so sometimes if i don't catch it on the early rise, I have to get out of the development and walk a bit to see it if that makes sense.

I need to understand moon and sun trajectories better!

EmeraldRoulette · 17/10/2024 23:28

I'm so bad at this 😂

so the moon is visible from the communal garden

currently very high in the sky and not looking big

this confuses me too

I know sometimes a super moon looks huge but I don't know why!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2024 07:17

Sky is clear now and the moon was still bright when I went down to get some tea a few minutes ago.

@EmeraldRoulette - there's 2 completely different factors with our perception of moon size. The 'super moon' is when it really is closer to the earth at full moon. But there's also a sort of optical illusion that the moon always looks bigger when it's near the horizon and smaller when it's higher. So I think the really huge looking supermoons are when both those things happen at the same time.

JubilantTurquoiseGerbil · 18/10/2024 08:06

Can still catch the moonset for those out and about with a good view of the horizon. It’s looking pretty huge right now.

Unfortunately misty here this morning.

I tried to take a photo of the still-bright moon at about 8am but it was almost invisible - human perception isn't the same as that of an iPhone it seems!Grin
