Can someone help me with a sentence and whether I need an apostrophe?

Hi All,

This is the sentence:

I have over 25 years’ experience of project management, (then the sentence carries on with other listed experience).

Do I need the apostrophe at the end of years? Or do I construct it as:

I have 25 years of experience of project management,

If anyone could let me know that would be great, it's for a CV.

"I have over 25 years’ experience of project management" - this is correct.

You also avoid two 'ofs.'

Or is '....in project management' better? I don't work in this field so I don't know if you're in it or of it!

Yes to the apostrophe '...25 years' experience of...' - the possessive apostrophe stands in for 'of'.

It's preferable to your second version, because you have repetition of the word 'of' '...of experience of....'. Not such a big deal if it's '...of experience in...' etc, but I'd go with the apostrophe version.

I only know this as I have had to look it up many, many times!!

Yes, after the years, the experience belongs to the years. Not the year. You are correct.

25 years' experience.

Yes you need the apostrophe and the first sentence is correct and better than the rewrite with two "of"s

Yes

Thank you all! I will leave it as it is. It has been like that for many years but I don't know why, I suddenly looked at it today and it looked odd.

But then again a lot of things look odd to me these days. There are so many misspellings of things if something is correct, it often looks incorrect because I have seen it spelt incorrectly too many times (if that makes sense!).

I think ‘25 years’ experience in project management’ sounds better than of…..

You’re missing a couple of apostrophes, @Albertose ….
